Would Fender put a right handed neck on a left handed body at the factory?
It is not a reverse haedstock because the Fender logo is upside down when holding the guitar.

Welcome to the Forum.

The Custom Shop might do that for you, but it would cost a lot more.

Is this a guitar you saw or got like this or are you asking if one is made like that?

Thanks for the reply. I already have the guitar. It has a 2005 USA Neck, and a 2005 USA body. It looks brand new and I was told that it came from the factory that way. Just fishing for some verification.

I suppose it's possible. My 2005 Am Std came out of the factory with an Am Deluxe trem block.

But with a used guitar, it's hard to sort out fact from fiction if some previous owner was forthcoming with the facts.

At the risk of sounding terribly cynical here, any time I'm looking at a used instrument...even one that appears to be in nearly mint condition, I take the sellers comments with a VERY large degree of skepticism. To be perfectly blunt...people lie...particularly when it comes to trying to make a buck. At the very least, people will provide "mis-information" because they didn't know themselves. For example, earlier this year I picked up a Strat body for a project...the seller swore up and down that this body was off a "pre 1980 American Strat"...stated this in his ad, in my emails with him and said this to my face in person. After looking at this body for only a moment, I -KNEW- it wasn't a real Fender body...pre 80's or otherwise. The tooling was all wrong to be a genuine Fender. However it did turn out to be real alder and the guy was only asking $25 for it so I bought it. After I got it home, I took some measurements...including verification of a -metric- bridge and once I had conclusive information I contacted the seller again. Once I was able to -prove- the body was certainly an import then his story changed to "well, that's they way I bought it and that's what I was told".

Now this is where the "mis-information" really comes in to play. Personally I think the seller was simply full of b.s....chronically so. Even though his price was more than fair, the guy just felt the need to try and make this in to something that it clearly wasn't...and I really do believe that he knew it. However...if I weren't the meticulous, not to mention the suspicious person that I am, I might have very well believed this guys line of crap...I'm sure there's a lot of people out there not as knowledgeable who would have. As such, had they of used this body with a real Fender neck for example and then later decided to sell it, they very well could have ended up continuing the myth that this was a real Fender...because that's what -they- were told.

In fact just last month as I was looking for an MIJ E series Strat I ran in to a "kid" at a local music store. He said he had purchased this guitar as a project but had never gotten around to it. Now this kid actually worked at the music store...a Fender authorized dealer...he should have known that the guitar was a majorly bogus fake. Aside from the really poor body routing (major hack job) and the cheap trem, there was the really poorly done headstock logo...definitely NOT the original logo...not even close. No neck or body stamps (yes...I looked)...nothing to remotely indicate this thing was genuine. Even as I stood there pointing these things out...and his boss stood there agreeing with me...the kid swore up and down it was "authentic".

So in regards to your instrument here with the left handed body...while I will not say it's impossible, it does seem highly improbable. It seems much more likely that someone at some point just took two 05's, one lefty and one righty, and swapped the necks. Just because someone said "it came from the factory that way"...even if this came from a so called expert at a music store...that really may not mean squat. Think of it this way...something odd like this...a "one off" if you will, coming from a "mass production facility" that makes thousands and thousands of instruments to very exacting specs vs. someone just swapping necks around? The easiest explanation is most often the correct one.

-If- this is really a major point of concern for you, then I would contact Fender directly with the serial number and pictures of the instrument (good luck getting a response but it's worth a try) otherwise I would simply enjoy the guitar for what it is. Just my humble personal opinion here but there ain't nothing wrong with a good "PartsCaster"...sometimes those are better than factory instruments anyways.

As always, these are just my own personal opinions...please consider them for what you feel they are worth.

Peace,
Jim
