Go to the store and play every strat in your price range till you find the one you love.

Thats the best advice anyone here could give you. It's such a personal choice.

i went to my local GC and play a bunch; the classic players 50s and 60s spoke to me. So did a standard HSS

The Classic Players are a good choice. So is the Highway One series.

The new Highway One's are pretty sweet. I'd go that way myself, but I'm not you.

The guitar center by my house dropped the price on the 50s Classic Player's strat to 541 bucks. Something to check out if you loved your uncles 50's strat.

I know what I would do in your situation. I would try everything possible to get your uncle to part with that 50's.

And I mean "EVERYTHING"

Don't be mean, just  [i]kill him and tell the family it was an accident and run away from home and bow down to me or i shall haunt you until you go suicidal from it! Oops, lol I'm just playin. I liked the way the 50's strats look over the highways, but I think that you should really go for durability over looks, so check out some reviews on Musiciansfriend, and look at durability of your favorites rather than sound. Then, go back to your dealer and make up your mind on what you like when it comes to the other stuff i.e. sound feel, etc. Good luck.
