I'm picking up a beautiful 2005 American Series Stratocaster in a couple of weeks and I want to get strap locks for it. I dropped my last strat on the garage floor and messed it up pretty good and I'm going to avoid doing that with the new guitar. What I'm wondering is what brand or model do you use for your guitar. Thanks.

I use these:

and

Both are good. I prefer the Dulop for reasons I cannot understand. Just easier to use.

I have almost dropped mine twice in the last week as the strap slipped of the end .I just went and put a set of the dual design Dunlops on.I have always used the Dunlops and had no issues with them. The dual design ones keep the vintage button look.

I recently picked up a Planet Waves locking strap for my Telecaster.

The end has a ratcheting lock that secures the strap without requiring a special strap peg. I like it. 8)

I have schallers on most of my guitars. Never had a problem in the 2 years I've owned them.

Schallers for me also. Don't know if anyone else has this problem with them though but I have to put Loctite on the threads as the little ball end (which you pull to release them) kept unscrewing and falling off.

Thanks for the replies so far! I was curious about the locking straps as well. I have a couple of weeks to make up my mind but you guys have been a big help already.

I used one of those once and have since vowed never to use one again. Scratched up my guitar's finish really bad.

I've got both. I've had the same issue with the ball falling off of the Schallers. With either design you need to check the strap buttons regularly. They will work loose. I check all strap buttons at the beginning of each gig. Also check the nut on the strap with the Schallers as it tends to get loose. You could use a puch to stake it in place, but it would very difficult to get it off again when you change straps.

I tried the Dunlop ones for awhile, and they were nice because you could use a strap with straplocks or a regular one with them. But I had a few close calls when they popped out while I was playing, and the guitarist in my Dad's band had the same problem with his. And he plays a 1970's Gibson Les Paul Custom, so though mid air, mid song catches were pretty amazing.

So I stick with Schaller now. You can only use straps that are also equipped with Schaller strap locks, but it's no big deal. I just keep the strap in the case with the guitar so that I don't loose it.

I've had Schallers come off, too. It's all part of the pre gig check. The u-shaped socket on the Schaller can turn if the the strap part is not tight. When I put a Dunlop equipped strap on, I give it a good tug to be sure the ball locks are seated. Never had one come off after it checked secure.
