What is generally reccomended for adding an additional spring to the tremolo?

1) If you wish to maintain a bridge float, you will need to loosen up the claw screws so that the bridge comes off the body of the guitar the requisite 1/8 inch. If - though - you are okay with no float (alot players including myself are) and the higher trem tension, then no claw adjustment is needed. If this is a new concept to you, the do a search on "float". It will explain a lot.
2) Your intonoation may need a tweak. If your bridge had no float beforehand, then you likely will have no tweaks to make.

If the bridge floats, then the tension provided by the springs is equal to the tension of the strings when tuned to pitch. If you put in another spring, you'll have to back off on the claw screws until the tension provided by the springs is equal to the tension of the strings when tuned to pitch.

So the net effect of adding a spring if the bridge floats is........nothing.
