Has anyone bought one of the Villex Stratocaster passive mid-range boosters? I'm talking about the cable jack that has a small toggle switch on it.

If you have one, what do you like or dislike about it?

I listened to the sound samples on their website, and was impressed enough to investigate further. I understand that, when engaged, I will lose some highs (duh, it's a "mid-range booster"), but the thickness it pumps out makes me very curious.

I also like the fact that I'll be able to disengage the switch, which means I can get my current tone (which I like, but there's the ever-present "tone quest" is still in full swing.

Tell me what you know!

Hi there Screamin' Armadillo !

I've got one on my no1 Strat, and it's always "on". It's one of those
addictive gadgets..:-) I play through old Marshalls, and I've found that the Villex enables me to use the bridge pup .Never did that before !
It also enables me to turn the middle down on the Marshall, which is good,as I find it better to get the midrange from the guitar signal.
I only turn it off if I play clean sounds, as I want the shimmer from the Strat unaffected. As I mainly play sort of high gain, I do not notice
the increase in volume that much, but the eq-effect is very, very nice.
It's all over the new track at www.myspace.com/bergsinferno
It screams a little in the solo starting ( at 01:42) if you're into more heavy stuff.
Regards, Per

My question about those gizmos is, How do you "boost" with out a battery?? Isn't that impossible?? You have to have an active circuit to do that, which means power, which also means battery. Am I right???

Has anyone tried the Villex booster on a Strat with an S-1 boost switch.... if so, can you use both simultaneously?

That's certainly a question for the manufacturer. When you find out, let us know. I wondered that myself.
