I don't own one but I am DYING for Musician's Friend to put the 62 Hotrod in Sherwood Green on one of their Friday Specials! That has the thin skin finish.

The american vintage is a normal cellulose finish, similar to the highway1. The vintage hotrods are thinskin.

Myself I think their too thin. Looking in the pickup cavity theres a splash of sealer then straight on with the paint. Its very thin, offers nothing to the guitars sound whilst amplified, is a bugger to look after. It will age quickly mine is fading already and some crazing is starting to appear round the back. There are lines where the paint is sinking into the wood too.
Thats either a plus or a minus for you. Personaly I've done everything short of wrapping that guitar in silk to keep it looking new. Its impossible. Next year it will have likely reached a closet classic look, I reckon in another 2 years it will have relic'd.

Heres a marketing statement from Justin Norvell about them. Note the made to age quickly line. I also liked the bridge the gap between production and customshop line too.

At first I loved the look of the Sherwood green but now I'm not sure. I don't think the color will age too well!
