After the initial 'pick' I get the buzz, which kills the initial attack and sustain to the point the buzz stops then it's fine, if that makes any sense; it all happens in the blink of an eye. The effect is to make the lower strings sound a little muddy through the amp, in either clean or overdrive. The action can't get much higher on the grubscrews, which leads me to think that the whole thing is just wrong- probably my set up measurements are not right- I've tried to learn the skills myself, but I think I'll pay someone else in future!

I'm trying the Plek fretdress and set-up out of curiousity as much as anything- I tried a new Plek'd Gibson LP at the weekend which played beautifully. The lot I'm using (Charlie Chandler in London) seem to have a very good rep for tech work. At least then I'll know the basics are right- they asked loads of questions about my playing style, action etc when I was booking it in.

We'll see anyway!

hey robert,

one more thing, im not sure what it cost for pleking. sounds expensive. im only saying this in attempt to save you a few. i know its frustrating. i got 11 of my own and i do other peoples too. (setup)

have you tried shimming the neck so that you can give some relief to it. (upward bow)

if you got the money by all means have your guitar plek'd every month, i hear its awesome. good luck

Sounds like your pickups may be too high. When you strike the string the magnetic force of the pickup pulls the string down. Your ok whilst the strings inert, soon as its actively vibrating the magnet will really act on it, if the pickup is too high set.

Chandlers is great. Their normal setup would likely cure it without the plek machine. Thats more for fretdress than anything.

Robert

See if you can arrange to be there when they do your setup...I think you will enjoy watching as well as pick up a handful of good tips for keeping your guitar in top shape. You will be surprised at how very small adjustments make a very big difference. Just makes for a good experience.

Good luck

I tried adjusting the p/ups right down, didn't help... Oh well.

The Plek fret dress inc setup is £130.

Sadly Chandlers is a good hour from here, and can't really get over on a weekday without taking time off- agree though it would be great to watch them do it all, esp the Plek.

And sometimes the fret buzz just never goes away.
