I designed a new banner to include my new Highway One in the picture. Coincidentally this is my 200th post. Just thought that was a bit of cool synchronicity.

That's a very fine banner.

I just recently included a picture in my signature.

Aww that is one awesome guitar! It looks just like David Gilmour's except for the fretboard!

This forum makes me feel relatively normal knowing I am not the only one with chronic GAS pain.

Somebody please tell me what GAS pain is? I have a feeling I've got it!

GAS is I understand it is Guitar Acquisition Syndrome. I believe there are many variations on the exact terms but the overall meaning is basically the same. Against all logic and pleadings from the wives and financial advisors one with GAS must go out and quench his desires with a new guitar. I'm sure many will chime in with better definitions and examples but this is my thoughts on the issue.
I'm in a constant state of GAS as I never stop looking for a new guitar, whether it be on ebay, craigslist, or one of the small stores around. (I have stopped making purchases from Guitar Center because of the treatment I received there from the employees several visits in a row).

On the subject of the V-neck. Does anyone have any experience with a largeer neck helping the pain caused by arthritic hands? I just turned 31 but have already developed arthritis in my hands and shoulders and am completely terrified to think that one day I may not be able to play because my hands won't operate like I want them to.

Thank You All,

Russ

Russ I dont think a Vneck will sort out your shoulder pain. You need to target that as much as you do the hand pain. Its very likely the two are intertwined. Its something i suffered from myself for years. Cold construction sites in the middle of december, constantly hitting fingers with hammers pretty much sealed it for me. I went onto do a form of kungfu primarily fist based rather than a kicking style. It doesnt yet have a sport application to my knowledge, gloves are useless for it. Part of that training was hand conditioning. Very gruelling. Press ups on your knuckles, launch yourself from pressup possition into the air, clap your hands and land on your knuckles. All on a concrete floor, I think I've broke 7 of my 8 knuckles in the past.
Onto the solution.
The quick relief I'd search out for Dit Dah Jow, a chinese bruise medicine that induces heat into the applied area. (by no means a fix). Its illegal in england and very hard to get hold of. It contains tiger bones and all that banned taboo stuff.
The longterm treatment I'd use Chrondrotin/glucosamine sulphate complex, tablets. Their herbal they just dont sound it. Their also a little expensive £35 for 120, 500mg tablets. They promote the growth of soft tissue and fluid in the joints. Were tested on OAP's with crippling arthritis and caused fantastic reults. I recommended em to a guy I used to work with who lost 3" of shin in a motorbike accident. He reported great success out of em too, despite modern medicinal treatments doing little. They take a month/6weeks or so to work into your system to start to allieviate the pain. Consult your doc about them, they can cause problems if your taking blood pressure medicines.

Gotta be worth £35 as a gamble in my book, they worked great for me. All I do now is take em for a couple of weeks at the end of september, that sees me through the winter. 1 a day.

On V necks, try a Baja tele. Its a monsterous size.

I must say that I love talking to you guys... I also like hearing your stories too, even if we arent talking guitars too :)

Here's a link to my fav add- believe it or not, it reminds me of us fender strat forum lads. its a heineken commercial, where guys go nuts inside a walk in fridge. I allways imagine walking into a room full of custom fenders and all us lads have the same reaction. Check it out

This place is a great utility for beginners and experts, and the wide variety of fender enthusiasts really makes this my number 1 net stop.

I have not only learned a bunch from everyone here, but my overall level of obsession multiplies the more I learn.
