Other than maybe special editions, limited runs, custom shop, etc., are there any hardtail Strats make these days? Just wondering. I had one back in the day when you saw something else you liked, you had to sell the one you had.

Well, there are the two Artist Series hardtail strats: Billy Corgan and Robert Cray.

No personal interest in hardtail Strats. Hardtails are called Teles, SGs or LPs.

I just recently fell in love with hardtail strats, and found it a bit surprising that the only models with signature models this year.

Hardtails sound different because of the missing energy gathered by the steel tremolo block but you gain in smoothness on delicate harmonics.

It's kinda surprising that there isn't a single one in the regular model lines at present though, isn't it? Feel sure they were around till just a couple of years ago (though I'd need to check that in an old catalog).

The only reason they aren't being made is because too few people were buying them to make it worth it for the Company.

Given how many Strat players don't use their wammy that is a bit surprising in itself.

But there you go...

Cheers - C

Correct about buyers but many players including EC prefer the sound of a Strat with a tremolo block even if it's fixed

......and.....for the benefit of all those whom, in the past have been discussing how the mass block is stopped, there you go, and that's what the company's wood block looks like. In addition, that's classic vintage mass block and spring number for the mid-late 50's era guitar.
Of course, if you float the bridge, the block will stand a bit closer to the back of the trem rout.

i'm having the tremelo bar taken off mine tomorrow, i never use it, it just gets in the way and honestly i dont even like the look of it.

A lot of guys I know who play strats have removed theirs also, so it seems odd they would only make 2 models without.

I'm gonna assume he means he's gonna have it professionally blocked?

I blocked my trem with a small stack of quarters several years ago...I did it initially for tuning stability (and the fact I never used the tremolo)...but I found that I had more sustain than before.

I also keep the "ashtray" bridge cover plate on, and it seems to add a bit of sustain as well. (Maybe it's the same principle of the set screws that push the saddles together on some of the G&L guitars?)

Plus, it looks cool!

newbie here, so i really have no idea what im doing when it comes to mods or repairs. Is it really as simple as turning it counter clockwise? dont you have to put that block in the back too? Im just not trying to mess anything up.

Interesting. See the possibilities in having all that metal in intimate contact. However, in over fifty years, that bridge cover has remained in the cases. Never could get used to the feel and it inhibits palm damping the strings as well.

LMFAO No disrespect but that was funny-like in having someone else turn it counter clockwise for you. Classic
