Have you ever bashed Strats and then did a 180? Not a question to offend but I can recall myself putting Strats down and then finally realizing their greatness...

From what I remember it was popular for awhile to Strat bash... and not just by Tele players (hey, owning a Tele doesn't make anyone a "Tele player"in that sense of the term).

I wouldn't say i bashed Strats, i just never played one
that i liked &/or that didn't feel like it was fighting me.

A buddy of mine's '62 was the only exception to that rule
until i played a Squier CV 50's in Best Buy & fell in love w/ it.
Couldn't stop thinking about it for two days so i went & got it.

Since then i've aquired three more Squiers, an
awesome White '92 MIK & a Purple 2000 Affinity,
which is far superior to any Affinity i've ever tried.

I've always stayed away from Affinitys because i've
always found them to suck, but my Purple one's a gem.
It's got a great playing neck & rosewood fretboard, stays
in tune & even the stock ceramic pickups sound quite good.

I also picked up a Black & White Frankenstrat for $50 on Craigslist.
It's a Squier body w/ some kind of unfinished replacement neck w/
a rosewood fretboard that i've really taken a liking to, though the
ceramics in that guitar need replacing as they're pretty weak.

I was able to get all three of these guitars for dirt cheap
& love each of them & their unique personalities equally.

What's more is i've found that i prefer the Squiers
to Fenders, or at least any of the many Fenders i've
tried before & after getting bitten by the Strat Bug.

(And, oh man... was i bitten.)

There are definitely sh*tty Squiers out there, but i've found that i
like the feel of a good Squier much better than an average Fender.

And the cost of a good used Squier allows me to
build my little collection of great players to mod
& mess around w/ &, most importantly, enjoy.

But after being strictly a Les Paul & Tele man for the last 20+ years,
i have most definitely done a 180 this year & fallen hard for my Strats.
At this point, i can't even see myself buying any other guitars until i get
the four more Strats i want to complete the collection i have in mind.

I recently snagged a beautifully (& naturally) reliced
White '90 MIK E Series for $40 in my pawn shop too.
It needs a nut & i may or may not upgrade the pots
as it needs a thorough wiring upgrade anyway, but
it's maple neck feels incredible & i couldn't resist.
I'm confident that it's gonna be a GREAT player.
Plus, it'll have cost me a grand total of about
$70 or $80 by the time i'm done fixing it up.

It's a disease, i tell you...

But it's a disease i like. 8)

Originally I hated Strats because it seemed like they looked just like every other cheap guitar out there. I hated Teles because I associated them with that one twangy country tone on the bridge pickup. Didnt take too long to realize that it was others who were copying the Strat, only the Strat was much better than the others. I also found that the Tele had alot more inside it than that one country tone. Now the Strat is my favorite guitar to play, and the Tele middle switch position is one of my overall favorite tones. I used to think my Gibson SG was the only guitar that mattered, but now it runs in 3rd.

I loved Strats, and I've wanted one since I first started looking into guitars. My first guitar was a purple 2000 Affinity Squier Strat. Several years later I got my first Fender. Then I really got into metal and the Strats were kept out of sight for about two years while I played my Les Paul. They both came out literally five minutes after I saw SRV for the first time, and now they're my favorites again.

They were rare in Chicago area in the late 60s; Gibson in Michigan, Gretsch in New York, Martin in Pennsylvania, Harmony in Chicago.

'Only saw a few, and compared with a 6120 or ES-335, they were not impressive.

Ultimately bought an American Standard in '90, and HOLY ****!!!!!!!

Now am thoroughly in love with them.

I've never bashed the Strat... bashing isn't really part of my personality. I was just a kid, over 30 years ago, when I got my first "Strat" copy. I was working in Tower Records in Honolulu and couldn't afford the real deal so I bought a Sears Catalog Strat copy and was as proud and as happy as could be. I loved Hendrix so much that I needed his style of guitar. It was a crappy chunk of wood though... what can you expect from a Sears Catalog. My next guitar was a white Yamaha T-300. At that time Carlos Santana was using Yamahas and since it was essentially a Strat copy (SSS, 5pt switch, 1 vol, 2 tone and tremolo) I got that. That was 1983 and to be honestly I didn't think that the quality of Strats were worth the price at that time. I was dreaming more about G&Ls and Charvels that Strats.

I love the two Strats that I own. I appreciate the current standards of quality control. To me there is no finer guitar for the price than an American made Stratocaster.

I've been a "Stratster" all the way through ..... although at times I've owned other guitars and have GAS for a PRS Modern eagle II ... I guess I'm sold on strats as a matter of principle

I had wanted a Strat since 1967 (Hendrix hit me hard) and didn't get one until 1986, though, I bought a new Fender Mustang in '71. I own other guitars too, but I've always been a Fender guy.

I started with an Ibanez superstrat. My second guitar was a Squier Bullet one that I have tricked out exstensively and bears a terrible Fender decal now, a new pickguard and some SCNs I got off of the other guitar player in my band when she stripped down her Squier standard. $@!& is so beat up it's glorious. Since then I have gotten pretty much only Fender guitars, though I have been gassing for a Rickenbacker for a bit now.

I've never bashed Fender but for the longest time I was not really interested in them. I have always been a "metal head" and I still am. I mostly longed for hard hitting humbucker equipped guitars and 24 fret shred type machines. I feel like I have always been more of a Gibson man, although I have always had much respect for Fender guitars, knowing that they are awesome instruments. I associate Fender as being true american classic type. As of late I have became fascinated with American Standard Stratocasters and I own a few. I still love metal music and I still love fast shred type guitars and I do still love Gibsons, but I have really taking a liking to Fender Stratocasters, but only with SSS, no humbuckers in my Fenders. I am really into playing (or trying to play) blues now, anthing from nice blues licks to rock-a-billy stuff. My main player is still my 1983 made Gibson Explorer 1, but one of my Stratocasters is a very close second as of late. I feel I have come along way as far as recognizing the instument for what it is, what it can do and what it was meant to do.
