M SRV is set at factory specs, my Texas Special is set almost to the pickgard. It depends on what you are looking for as far as tone goes.

The Texas Specials are hotter than vintage pickups , so by lowering them it allows me to get more of a vintage vibe with them.I have the SRV set up at the recommended height for more of a bite.I highly recommend playing around with the height to dial in your tone.

This applies BTW to also stock ceramics and Alnico V's. That vintage vibe is a great place to start. Also with heigher up with hot pu's comes tonal/tuning issues.

The best to you with a great guitar.

The Texas Specials in my SRV Strat are set very high. The bridge is almost touching the string when they're pressed down. The middle is a little farther away and the neck is a tad more. The tone is very warm and with the volume full on there's a nice crunch.

I'm also a proponent of experimenting with pickup heights. Usually I keep the side of the pickup nearest the bass strings a little lower than the side under the G,B, & E strings. Also the neck pickup is lower overall and the bridge pickup is highest overall. Thats what seems to work best for me.
