I have a MIJ 1984 strat, which I always regarded as off-white:obviously it's not Artic white (i.e. pure white), nor is it olympic white (I have an American Standard in that colour).

The colour is best described as a very pale greenish creamy colour; almost exactly the same as the 'aged white' P U covers of my YJM signature strat (yet completely different from the pale buff/orangey 'aged white' control knobs on the same guitar!)

Does anyone have any idea what the colour would be? obviously it could have changed slightly with age, but I don't think so, admittedly I have not taken the scratch plate of recently to check.

Thoughts please, I really love the colour!

It sounds like Antique White which can be almost yellow.

I agree, my guess is that it is Vintage White too.

The difficult thing about knowing Fender colors has to due to the variations in paint "color mix", reactions of the base/sealer coat with the color coat, clear coat (if any), UV exposure (sunlight), along with other factors. When Fender Japan first fired up, their main focus on production was mostly vintage reissues. So Vintage White was definitely on their list of colors.

Thanks Guys, but it's not vintage white; I have a YJM that colour - the wife calls it my 'custard colour guitar'!

In fact, it's very similar in colour to a mint-green Fender scratch plate I've got, but very slightly paler ore of a creamy colour

upload the picture to a host site like www.imageshack.us or www.pict.com, then take the URL given and post it here using the tags.

So it should appear as

I think i know the color you're talking about & can kind of
picture it in my mind but i don't know what it was called.

I see them on ebay w/ kind of a
minty pickguard from time to time.

If it's the color i'm thinking of, i love it too.

Looks like the vintage white on the malmsteen models.

I know exactly what color you mean, friend had that same year of guitar. I always love the color, but have no idea what the "name" is.

Ya gotta remember that a guitar that old has been exposed to a lot of UV and all kinds of light that can change an original color. And two guitars of the same original finish may not fade or change to the same color thru time. I have seen some white finishes turn to cream, yellow, beige, or stay close to original tint. It is just the life it lives, and where it has been exposed to.

Why does the name matter? It's some version of an off-white. Call it - Crackhead Teeth White, and leave it at that.
