Can't help myself when I see a yardsale, flea market, or pawn shop. Gotta stop in and see what is there. Look what $20 buys.
1960s Kent SG copy, all original, all I had to do was install a new nut, and clean it up. Sounds pretty cool!!
Yamaha dreadnaught acoustic guitar, all original, I did have to glue a neck crack, but it is now solid and plays and sounds nice! Image

The best $20 deal i've gotten recently was for
a Mint 1984 MIJ BOSS HM-2 Heavy Metal pedal.

The best BOSS Distortion EVER, imo,
& like having a JCM 800 in a stompbox.
No other BOSS pedal even comes close.

It's very versatile too, despite it's
name, which is kind of misleading.

Might've been the best $20 i ever spent, come to think of it.

What did you use to glue the neck crack?

I posted this in the lounge, but in case you didn't see it, I got this guitar and amp for free. My girlfriend found them on freecycle and they were left by the curb a few miles from my home.

http://www.fender.com/community/forums/viewtopic.php?t=28627

Guitar needed pickups, wiring and tuners all of which I had laying around. Based on reviews it was one of the crappiest guitars ever made, but it actually plays pretty decent after the mods I made.

The amp needed it's pots cleaned and a new fuse holder for $5 from radio shack. It is a 90W solid state amp with a 12" speaker. It plays like new and is very cool.

If I would have had some hide glue, I would have used that. But instead I used Titebond original wood glue. It was kind of an experiment to see how well it would hold, and it is doing a fine job.

$30 at an estate sale. The neck and body are pretty much the only original parts. Nothing else was salvageable. New pick ups, tuners, electronics. It was a fun project. I wanted a "James Hetfield" LP.

Some nice bargains!

Just goes to show that you don't have to pay thousands of dollars to get a great guitar. :)

You can imagine the scene back in the late 1960s...

"yeah, its my son's guitar, we got it for him in 1957 he wanted one like Buddy Holly, he's gone to college and lost interest in it now in fact he never played it much, sure you can have it for 20 bucks..."

If only I'd been there!

I got an Airline archtop acoustic at a garage sale for $1.00; it rattled when I moved it around because of a penny stuck inside (when I got it out I figured I had a 99-cent guitar!) Tobacco sunburst, big fat neck and creme-colored binding.

I fixed the nut, slapped on some new strings and played slide on it--the neck needs a reset--and it sounds great.

One of my other "killer" deals was a late 70s early-block-logo MXR Phase 90--$20 with the original box and manual! I bought it in the mid-1990s and it has always had a place on the pedalboard since then.

I picked this up today for $30. The wiring needs to be redone though. The coil tap switch is disconnected and the pots are real scratchy when using them

It does have ther Hamer Floyd Rose Tremolo though, figured that made it worth it.
