Them guitars work out at $1500/£919 each.
The guitar I saw sell for £1485 was a complete anomally. Strings direct now have one for £995.

Its still a winner if anyone is intrested in coming in on it with me. Especialy for the unplayed ones.

Oh. Well now you've done the sums for me I'm not so sure. An Am Dlx can be had hereabouts for £869 / $1417 new:

Bit more for an ash sunburst, obviously.

Presumably the 50th Anniversary aspect adds collector value - but then I'm not a collector. Mind you, though I don't normally go for gold hardware those Ebay ones are mightly pretty.

Worth collecting in person and taking in that volcano into the bargain, perhaps...?

Old Hat Guitars in horncastle (no internet site for em :? ) have a special import deal. They've a gretsch billy bo there for £2K. Theres no import duty on it. I wonder if I could talk em into importing this lot for me.

Ceri I believe there will be some collectability to the 50th anni deluxe, in years to come. The more people buy the ones floating around and dont sell them on. The rarer they will become, though there was a fair few made. Theres still a good few of em out there, so its gonna take longer than it would for say the la carbonita guitars to accumulate in value. Hopefully my kids will make a few bob off it.

Been up that old hat shop a bit lately learning what makes things collectable. Its the most unusual of things. I was looking at a 80's red knob twin. A amp much maligned. The one I was looking at though wasnt for sale. It has a oxford speaker which i'm assured is the perfect match for that amp. I certainly heard nothing wrong with it, to the point of getting the chequebook out. Only to be told 'Its not for sale yet, maybe in another five years or so'. Their obviously waiting for the price to rise on what was a very much run of the mill, mas produced amp at the time it came out. The rarity of the oxford equipped models means it will skyrocket in value when it does become soughtafter. Could the same thing happen to the 50th anni deluxe? I'd have to say so, though they are more numerous than the twin I mentioned. Deluxe's are great guitars, a specific model like that one is going to become a rarity one day.

Hahaha - man I'd love to spend a day or two running around hanging onto your coattails, Nicholas Ninja. I'd sure learn some stuff!

I couldn't begin to guess where amps are going to go in the collector market. You're the one with the eye for that. Far as guitars are concerned, I could have a guess - but I haven't the cash to back the ones that would be high on that list. Seems to me you have to start high if you want a serious chance of going higher.

I love the idea of guys like you buying guitars and keeping them mint to give to their children decades down the line. However, I don't have any kids, so my guitars gotta be fun for me - now! If they're actually worth something to someone when I pop my clogs, then good for them.

(Along with my will I do have a list of my instruments and what my wife should try to get for them on Ebay if I'm hit by a bus - but she ain't going to retire on it. I just don't want them going to my brother-in-law... )

'Night man - C

Ah cmon give the outlaw (inlaw) a break mate.

Truth be told I know little about collecting. Just make a haphazzard guess. Yes your right, you need to start high. I was looking at a Yuriy 'Russian' earlier for £3.5K. Turns out its a second run guitar and misrepresented as being a one off with a coloured headstock. Luckily on these boards we have friends in the know (Alain  ).

My missus and kids are under the same instructions. This case pack goes with this guitar. Ask so and so for current value.

Yep play em now. Lifes too short. I figure that a decent played 54 is still worth a fair bit so I may as well play the things I have now.

Hee hee - no, I don't think I will!

He's a much better player than me and, though he never made it as a pro, has done much more respectable things in his musical career.

I'd be delighted to sit at his feet and learn stuff, but unfortunately he's also one of those "gate keeper" types that Twelvebar talked about. He hates to share.

Sometimes he pulls off a dazzling lick and I naturally admiringly ask how it's done. He might play it again once more at full speed and that's it. Like I might master it and in doing so surpass him - as if!

On the other hand, my gear is better than his gear - and so he ain't getting any of it!

Families, huh?

Cheers - C
