Hello,
I bought a second hand Fender presented to me as Highway One.
Nitro body, Z4259639 serial number, Made in USA on the back of the headstock, "Original Custom body patented" logo on front... the guitar looks very good.
But the headstock is large, 70 style - and I discovered that this headstock is introduced only after 2006.
Is this true? There are or not Highway one guitars made in 2004-2005 with large headstock?
Thanks.

Highway 1 guy here... you are correct that the large headstock wasn't available until late 06. Maybe 70's reissue neck on a HWY1 body? Where is the truss rod access? Headstock or heel of the neck?
Post some picks of both sides of the headstock.

The Serial number placement seems off. I have an 06, and my serial numbers are under the tuners. The DiMarzio pups in the neck and mid are not stock. Other than that it looks legit. Hopefully some other HWY1 cats and kittens will pipe up and shed some light on this.

The color is the same, the year is the same, the headstock...
Mine was a HSS too, I changed it to SSS

Hmmm...interesting. Hard to say I guess. I dig the walnut finishFender says the HWY1 didn't make the chanege until late 06.

Also I believe the HSS didn't come standard until 07.
I believe this is your guitar color.
Midnight Wine.

no, it's not midnight wine, is identical with the one in the link above.
look here also http://topguitars.info/guitars/view/283/136/default.html
it seems that the HSS model with large headstock was introduced in 2003.
Did you know if on fender.com site there is a History/archive page with all models ever made?
Tks again

It's true that the HSS always had the large headstock. The SSS changed from small to large.

There's no history page here. You have to look through old catalogs!

Ah, yes, the Highway 1 Toronado and the Highway 1 Showmasters.

You don't see very many of them around.
