As you may tell I LOVE the Highway One Stratocaster HSS!!!
It is a fantastic resonant, toneful piece of wood!
Just so happens......the pickups and tuners totally SUCK!!
So..........I gutted them all....put in new pickups , saddles, and tuners....and NOW and ONLY NOW are they worthy stage guitars!!

L to R;
(Walnut) Gibson BurstBucker 3, DiMarzio Area 61
(Black) Gibson 490T, Fender Vintage Noiseless
(Natural) DiMarzio 36th Anniv. P.A.F. Area 58's
(Wine Red) DiMarzio Virtual P.A.F. Area 58's
(Sunburst) Gibson 57 Classic Plus, Fender Vintage Noiseless
(Ebony Trans. ) Gibson 498T, Fender Vintage Noiseless

Saddles: Ferraglides
Tuners: Fender/Schaller locking tuners

Now....I just have to find a Daphne Blue HSS and my EVIL EMPIRE will be complete!!! Muuuuuaaahhhhh!!!

Hi Mate- nice collection.

All I could think of, with all of those pickups, knobs and switches and all those Hway1's... you have more options and positions than Karmasutra

Nice guitars. Looks like you have a soft spot for Humbuckers.

Hey HWY1Strat

Awesome collection.

I was thinking of doing similar idea on the pickup config as your sunburst. How is that 57 Classic in the bridge sound (would you compare it to Gibby SG)?

What size pot and caps are you using for Gibby pickup?

I noticed you didn't use pickup "frame" (plastic piece that goes around the pickup with screws for height adjustment. Can you adjust height without one?

Cheers.

Thanks. I've never owned a Gibby SG....so I have nothing to compare it to!
As far as the pots and caps.....I don't know! My guitar guys takes care of all that!! I wish I did! Unfortunately .....I just PLAY the damned things. I wish I had the knowledge to repair them!!
As far as the plastic frames...they would look HORRID!! So I didn't use them. And yes I CAN adjust the height of the pups. I usually just trust my guitar guy to set them...he knows what I like!

I've said it once , I'll say it again......I find the single coil Strat bridge pup USELESS!! Especially if you play in a copy band as I do! I need versatily to go from Hendrix to Zeppelin without trucking a crapload of guitars to a gig!! I just bring 1 HSS formatted Strat and I'm SET!!

I'd have to agree with that. HSS offers much more versatility, especialy if you have the bucker taped in the bridge mid possition. I found SC's in the bridge good for very particular playing styles.

I like my HSS better than my SSS but I still want an HH. Lke Nik said, you need to tap the bridge if you want to play bridge/mid without hum. That's the only thing I like better about the SSS.

I took my humbucker out and put in a single coil, but thats just me.The HSS is more versitile , but as niki pointed out , there are just certain tones you just cant get with the HSS.Same can be said of a SSS.

Hey Rich! Okay, I get it, you don't like the stock pickups.

To each his own, you know. Now let me get your opinion on the GreaseBucket circuit. How do you like it?

Have I asked you this before?

Oh, yeah, one more thing, that "Natural" color is actually called "Amber" (I have one just like it, but stock).

What can I say.....I have STRONG opinions about this stuff!!

The greasebucket circuit............to be honest.....I rarely use it. Once in a while when I want to grab me some 'Woman Tone' for some Cream tunes...that's it!

Natural....Amber.....Potato.....Tomato....pa-taato......you obviously have some old Frontlines lying around....all I know is that NOW.....it sounds great!!

I just wanted to avoid confusion!

But I agree that the HSS is a very versatile set up .... I am a big fan of the neck position pickup for my Strat tones. So having the bridge Humbucker is like having a second guitar at my ready for the hard rockin' songs.

Its great that your a union electrician. By the looks of it work is pretty good. Being a union carpenter in Chicago I can say that times are tuff. Work is hard to come by. But at least I get more time to play my Deluxe Fat Strat HSS.

You DO realize you are on a GUITAR chat site?!!?

Oh, I see...

This forum isn't about PLAYING the guitar.

My mistake.

Thank you, oh SULTAN of sarcasm, for bringing that up.

It IS about PLAYING the guitar; although I'll be damned, I see NO instructional material listed on this chatboard.
It is also about COLLECTING Fender instruments; or haven't you noticed the birth/new arrival announcements in just about every category?

It is about the joy of creating your own little Fender Herd!!

I fully agree

Yep, I agree 100%. I used to be a maple-a-holic for years, and only "discovered" rosewood fretboards about three years ago. I've never looked back.
