Hi Guys,

I am planning on removing the back plate from my Stratocaster to improve the tone as I have heard that this can work a right treat!

I was just wondering what your thoughts were on the subject?

Thanks :)

Well, this is one of those questions where you'll get a bunch of different responses.

My feelings are that either on or off, I can hear no difference.

I have mine removed but only to facilitate changing strings. And I would suspect that all the other millions of Strat players that remove the plate do so to facilitate changing strings. Not to improve tone.

Does removing the back plate cause an echo too?

Some say that using different colored trem springs change the tone? :?

If you take it off, flip it 180 degrees and reinstall it you can hear "Paul is Dead". All in fun Tubescreamer... 8) Mike

I think it probably looks ugly to the average audience member. Like hey, is that guitar broken in the back? You can see it when they change guitars... there, it's like springs and stuff.

Voodoo Mojo!

Take it off and love the easier string changes. Just don't do dive bombs on the trem with your shirt off if you have a hairy belly, it's about as good as a bad wax job!

Yeeeooooooow!

Didn't we just have a 5-page thread on this?

No differance noticed when plugged in and jamming on stage. However, you may notice something, or not. The only time I play with the cover off is when I may still be tweaking the setup and will make on the fly adjustments between songs or sets.

It makes no difference to your "tone", but it does make changing strings a bit faster :D

Quite right. Enough already.

Just think of how awesome a guitar player you could have been by now if you had only spent the last 10 years practicing instead of obsessing over pickups and roasted maple necks.
