Yep.....I've read some (dumb) stuff from some of you folks on this forum that makes me wonder sometimes. You guys can become like kids in a schoolyard: picking on the ones that are different - ones that you don't agree with....must be you get bored being on this forum all the time and have to lash out to cure your itch for controversy.

TS, let's get together and jam....you can play without your trem cover, and I promise it'll be OK at my house.

Don't be so b****y self righteous. It's an open forum – people who come on here should expect a little (harmless) Mickey taking now and then. If people want to be childish that just adds to the fun. Remember fun, or should we all be seriously miserable too???

Bloody ignore it mate. Dont even pay another seconds thought to it. I for one think its a bit of a silly notion worthy of eric johnson. Even Joe Bonnemassa is saying he can hear some unusual things, like he can hear the difference between a flame maple top and a quilt maple top on his les pauls. So your in good company  .

My opinions shouldnt matter a jot to you. After all your guitar experience is your own. You dont want the backplate, throw it in the bin. Or even send it to me, I love em. I'll even go as far as to say they add sustain in my book (jk).

WHOAA I am a little shocked at some guys here. I have seen some really ridicules threads posted that ended after three replies. This is three pages worth. It is not like Tube Screamer said he took off the back plate and turned up to ten and heard a vast change in tone, he said it was unplugged. The guy has 22 post and everyone is ragging him. Tube Screamer this is not the norm here even from the guys breaking your chops as they are good guys who cut loose every now and then which is fine, but usually not on someone so new so just shake it off and dont let it deter you from asking a question as there are a lot of brilliant guys on the forum that can help you out with almost anything you would want to know. Know I am going to check if it is a full moon tonight.

Yes, you're right.

Although I meant the majority of my stuff as tongue-in-cheek, the problem with internet postings is that no one can truly know the exact mindset of the poster other than him or herself.

So, to Tube Screamer, I humbly and sincerely apologize if I came on too strong.

Agreed... and I apologise to anyone I might have upset(?)

But pleeeaasseee everyone, don't be so sensitive... don't take every comment that contradicts you as being an act of aggression... it's not... it's just healthy discussion that sometimes tips over into passionate opinion and sometimes into childish humour!

Like someone said on another thread: "We're all on the same side here."

Tube Screamer

Please continue to post whatever you are interested in. If you like the back plate off, absolutely leave it off. You should actually be very proud of yourself, you have inspired a record number of apologies, and this is no easy thing to accomplish...kudos to you!

And Martian..."yea yea I know the guy can play" is the ultimate Eric Johnson understatement. He is arguably one of the best guitarists alive. Can he hear the difference between batteries? Maybe....Should his abilities be a point of validation for Tube Screamer...absolutely not. Did you ever see those guy's that have a head injury and then become virtuoso pianists although they never played the piano before the accident, or the guy who learns to speak any language in 7 days, or the math guy that does equations in his head faster than a computer. These are true facts which are actually very cool.

I think there are a ton of great guitarists around, but I also think that there is a group of 1%ers that play outside of the standard "great" curve. Eric Johnson is certainly one of them. Music being completely subjective and peoples individual tastes always makes for interesting conversation about silly things like Rolling Stones Magazine Top 100 Guitarists lists...what a joke...The 1%ers never even make the list.

Great day to you all

I have to dissagree with you there. I, as I am sure do many others, enjoy playing electric guitars unplugged from time to time ....

That does not compute for me. Bad command at line 2105. System failure.

If I picked up an electric guitar and began to play it unplugged it would only make me start looking for an amp and a cable. They are not even the same genus unplugged let alone the same animal. They behave COMPLETELY differently. There would be no point to the exercise. If I want unplugged I'll reach for one of my acoustics. That's why when you see all those "Unplugged" albums, they're using acoustic guitars, not unplugged electric guitars.

That's just ... weird.

When buying a new guitar I test the feel of the guitar before plugging it in. After mucking around with guitars for over 30 years I can tell a good one from a bad one with a strum. I don't need 100 guitars so if something catches my eyes but just doesn't "feel" right, I know from many past experiences that I will not enjoy playing that guitar and pass is up. If the guitar got a good setup before shipping, or if the the shop has a tech that checks the setup after receiving then the guitar should feel good. A $3000.00 custom shop "feels" undeniably better than a $100.00 Squire Bullet. That said, I also play my guitars unplugged. My hands always have to be busy. I practice my sweep picking during Metalacolypse. I can't hear Nathen Explosion sing with my guitar plugged in. And since I live in an apartment with thin walls my neighbors complain about my headphones... HEADPHONE! So if I can't sleep an hour or two of scales and exercises calms me and helps me sleep.

Just because you see no need for something doesn't make it weird. Some of you people here are just plain mean!

Sadly ... this is very much the norm here. I have been posting a variety of different opinions on several subjects for the last few months. No matter how many times I disclaim the post before starting, no matter how nice I try to be, no matter how often you state that this is only your opinion, you better be ready for a barrage of criticism, almost always accompanied by rude, disrespectful as well as insulting personal attacks.

This guy at least broke the apology record ... I usually don't do quite as well in that department. I have been drawn into many a heated debate, where I was inspired to loose my cool more than once. It's sort of like a "no pain no gain" kinda forum. You better be prepared to go at it when you post something.

Good Luck....if you can take it, ...it can be entertaining.

And I find this to be one of the friendliest and helpful forums on the net. Most guitar forums I've visited are full of foul language etc. The old timers and Brad try to keep things civil and if not and it gets out of hand then hit the report button. There is some kidding that at times gets out of hand but overall I think it's great. My opinion only.

There's always some that don't play nice though but they usually don't last long!

Top notch folks here. In a true pinch most all people here will go out of their way to provide an answer or point you in the right direction to satisfy your query. Would'nt consider another forum in my opinion. Just wait untill some tragedy befalls a member here and see how many flock to pass their prayers and condolences. Sure, sometimes good natured ribbing may get a little out of hand but most members are able to offer an apology and we all go on another day..... 8) Mike

Hop

Did you read what all the friendly people had to say to Mr TS in the three pages of responses that he received. Heartwarming! They made him feel very at home. I'm sure that he can't wait to compose his next post. As far as Brad goes, I'm sure that he is a great guy and probably has his hands full moderating here. He is cordial and very well intentioned, although my experience with the "report button" was less than satisfying. Your pretty much on your own and anyone can call you what they like, slander and insult you, disregard the "rules of conduct" and you will be directed to take it up privately, although you were disrespected publicly.

Post at your own risk...and be big enough to take it once it starts flying.
