Does anyone know how I might be able to find tuner per hole size for a 98-2000 MIM strat? (besides measuring myself)

If you are planning to redrill to enlarge the holes in your headstock then just stop right there and take your guitar to a professional. You will only irreparably damage your neck by attempting it yourself. This is not a joke. Don't try it yourself, you will be sorry.

Pffft, I did it a few weeks ago to my '78 Stratocaster and it came out perfect.

You can make them holes bigger but you can't make them smaller.

I would not do that.

Difference in grain direction. Likely to work loose. Why not just use tuners with the right size shafts?

The tuners I am looking at are SMALLER and thereby I have to buy ADAPTER BUSHINGS. As such, I am trying to find what size holes I have so I can ascertain what size adapter bushings to purchase. So, does anyone know the size or where I can find the size?

Hi protagoras: officially, tuner holes are either "vintage" 11/32" or "modern" 13/32" - the latter is quite commonly given as 10mm instead.

Unless your MIM is a Reissue model it almost certainly has the larger pegholes, so buy your conversion bushings accordingly.

However: there is a health warning on that advice. In real life pegholes don't necessarily conform exactly to official specs. You may have to enlarge them very slightly to get those bushings in, or alternatively they may go in a little loose.

There's fixes in either case - but why don't we come to that if it turns out to be necessary?

Good luck - C

The two standard sizes are 11/32" and 10mm (about 13/32") Since your existing holes are bigger you probably have 10mm. I wish I knew a source for bushings, but that would be ideal solution.

Here's some:

http://www.stewmac.com/shop/Tuners/Tune ... hings.html

And some more:

http://store.guitarfetish.com/vitucobu.html

And some others:

http://www.wdmusic.com/tuning_machine_parts.html

Many more out there to be found...

Cheers - C
