Hello everyone! My first post!
Found a circa '82 mia standard strat (floyd rose series)at a yard sale for $250. It's had one owner and other than being dirty, it's really close to being in mint condition. It's equiped w/a floyd rose, all original, including case.
The problem: it's serial # starts with FN. I looked it up and I know this # goes with strats designated for export. Don't know why it didn't get on the boat...
Also found out the dating of this guitar is considered "unclear". Is their any other way I can date this puppy? Anyone know what the true value of this guitar is?
Thanks for reading, looking forward to your thoughts. :D

Welcome to the forum. The Floyd Rose series were 1992 -99

If it is legit, I hope you got it. Any Fender Strat is worth at least $250. I would have taken that bad boy home with me in a heartbeat.

Taking off the neck and looking to see what is there is a good way of getting info on the guitar. I know most sellers are not keen to have their guitar taken apart, so this can be a problem. If they are reluctant to verify it's origin, I would walk away. If they say "okay, go ahead" then do so, and note what info you find on the neck heel and body neck pocket. Offer them a new set of strings for their trouble if you don't decide to but it.

Thanks for the info! I did find out it was bought in the early ninties. Don't know where I got the 80's from. probably misheard.
I'll be picking this babd boy up on the first unless some bonehead shows up with 300 cash and buys it out from under me. No, I'm not telling where it is!
Question: can years be assigned to cases by type? This guitar has a tannish-brown fiberboard case w/yellow faux fur lining. When I bought my first Strat in '81, it came w/a standard hardshell case. :D

Fenders from the 90's did not come in fiberboard cases. It sounds like the guitar is in an aftermarket case. The original owner was probably too cheap to spring for the case when he/she purchased the guitar.

Or...maybe the original owner kept the good case and substituted the aftermarket one. Not a big deal...hardshell and molded Strat cases seem to be going for about $50-$85 on craigslist.
