To me there is something that is just not genuine about that guitar, but for those of you who like it I think it should live on as is.

I always smile when an electric guitar player condemns some new tech as not being "authentic."

You shoulda heard the archtop guys when the first solid-bodies came along.

There is nothing authentic, real, organic or "natural" about an electric guitar. This argument gets even more outlandish when people start talking about the difference between "organic" analog stompboxes and "sterile" digital ones.

I thought the VG was a real cool concept, and would have bought one, but for two things... having to buy another guitar and battery life.

If Fender fixed the VG's electricity junkie problem and offered the VG circuit as an after-market kit I could drop into my current Strat, I'd buy one tomorrow.

Like the original poster said. He wants to see where people stand on the issue. I gave an opinion which was not stated in a demeaning or derogatory way. As stated I think there is a place for that technology for those who like it. I just think this type of electronic gadgetry belongs in a stomp box or the amp. According to the poll results I'm not the only one who feels that way, and since Fender discontinued this model there must be alot of us. I'm a big fan of the S-1 technology, but for me there is a difference between that technology and the VG.

i THINK THE VG IS PERFECT THE WAY IT IS. ADDING MORE TO IT IS TAKING AWAY FROM IT'S PRACTICALITY.

I got a VG strat a few weeks ago, plugged it into my amp, sounds great, but noticed now I am getting an annoying buzz whenever it is in its regular strat setting.. This is probably more of a tech question but any ideas on why? When I have its set to its standard strat mode, there is a loud buzz, but when i activate the modelled strat.. it goes away.. WTF? I am gonna bring it in to where i bought it and have them figure it out.. but any ideas before i do?

Are you playing with a lot of gain? Does the buzz go away when you set your pickup selector switch to position 2 or 4 when you're in the normal Strat setting?

I rarely play my VG with a lot of overdrive or distortion but when I do, my experience has been the same as yours... the Strat setting on the Roland pickup is noiseless.

I don't care for the alternate tuning settings but it is a cool feature. I really wanted to buy one for the acoustic setting. Then I played it. :? What accoustic setting? It didn't sound like an acoustic at all. I know it can be done. The Line 6 Variax 700 did it. Even Hamer had one back in the day. If they fixed that, I'd buy it.

I hope you didn't take my reply as demeaning, but I was simply pointing out that a solid body electric guitar is really no more "genuine" than a VG Strat. I'm not belittling your opinion - it doesn't matter to me either what anyone thinks of the VG - but merely pointing out the semantic irony.

No offense taken SlapChop. I think I probably misinterpreted the gist of your reply.

'Bought a perfet SB when they were closing out in June.

'Play it 90% of the time without batteries as an American Standard.

In this opinion, the VG is a truly excellent guitar.

A friend of mine got one and was going on about how it can sound like an acoustic, a tele, a Les Paul and other guitars. I kept waiting for the sounds - but they never came. It does seem to provide a greater variety of tones than a regular strat setup but no tele twang, no acoustic sounds, and disn't sound like any LP I ever heard either.

The fancy electronics aside, I liked the neck and the way it played.

I'm with the group who said leave the battery out and use petals or amp settings to get the sound you want.

I own one and use it but I still gravitate back to my Standard strats. I hate B flat in fact any flat. .... :D If they would just add one more tuning say 1/2 step down I would be happy as a bug in a rug. The only other issue I have is the stock I had to buy in Eveready to keep the darn thing working.

Do some research and see what Les Paul did to his solid body namesakes. 8)
