the bottom line is that this thread started talking about road worn and relic guitars. it all comes down to a matter of opinion and everyone is entitled to their own. the best part about that is that no one can be right or wrong in this situation. i dont agree with trying to tell someone that their opinion is wrong or that their likes are some how inferior. this whole relics discussion is never going to end because too many people think that their opinion really matters. i also dont agree with statements that cant be confirmed. i dont think either of you are in the right so the best thing is to just let things be. once again, thats just my opinion. i will continue to be entertained none the less.

why so much hate?

It's not "hate." It's a form of snobbism.

Part of our journey here us to give up put downs esp. when negative opinions then get turned (or seem to) towards individuals.

Peace.

Your opinion is a valid one. I have never uttered a bad word about anyone's choice of guitar! The same can not be said on the other side but I'm through so y'all have to be entertained by another thread. Peace! :)

strat2004, I'm weary of these sorts of combative discussions and from the e-mails I'm getting, so are others here -- **PLEASE** take 'em offline.

fhopkins, i wasnt speaking of you specifically. i was talking about the discussion in general. i think you would agree that too many people get caught up in opinion rather than fact. i think that strat2004 got defensive and beleives that his opinions have somehow become fact!

Thanks! :) I have noticed that the forum has become more defensive and combative lately and that's a shame!

Im sorry guys this is a long running thing over many months where strat2004 or whatever name he chooses to post under makes a claim like the one he did early on in this forum. He will then go on to back it up with some statement that he can offer no visible evidence for. I for one want to see one of his statements proved right by somebody other than him. It scares me that there are people as delusional as he (a daphne blue for $2k, was one of his funnier claims, especialy when numerous people posted links showing them for sale at their RRP. His reaction was a doozy) allowed to participate in normal functioning society.

Once again it turns up that his brothers uncles fairy godmother or some other intangible source has revealed his information to him. Something non of us can check. If anyone else can please do, please prove him right. As soon as he's disagreed with he will launch a tyrade about A; you being talentless, B; from a pisspot country (his words in my email inbox), C; A joke or D; unknowledgable. Though he claims to be a BIG artist. One that wont participate in any form of self promotion. I didnt think such a thing existed, most turn up to the opening of a letter and are more than happy to push their acheivments to hopefully increase sales.

Earlier on he was on about other forums being way better than this one. Why doesnt he use them then? Is he regarded the same on them?

Sorry but I think the bloke is someone who sits at his keyboard making stuff up. When he wears thin his welcome on any site he moves onto the next and just keeps cycling round them. His past behaviour here If anyone cares to look will certainly indicate it. Its got nothing to do with snobbery or guitars. Its about a child who cant/wont explain or validate their claims.

i agree with you. people get caught up in the gear "snobery" and become defensive when someone doesnt like the same thing. its important to realize that Fender is not the only shop in town and that there is an entire world full of excellent guitars. we just happen to love Fender.

So still no evidence then, Strat2004?

Funny your the only one to call me a know it all. I'm more than ready to accept correction, as long as It's backed up with proven fact. I've even in the past attempted to prove something I believed, only to have it prove the opposing opinion was right. (the maple/rosewood video if you care to look for it). I was happy to accept my correction on that, I didnt not post the video. Once proved that I was wrong I was happy to share it. See thats the difference, I've enough humility to accept when I'm wrong, as long as its proven. Any price for truth has been my personal motto for years. Its certainly not going to change on your say so with no corroborating evidence to prove your point. Fhop called the store you said and got a very business like reply. One that would be usuall for any retailer to give to someone they dont know over the phone. The simple fact being Its far more profitable for fender and therefore the shop to tell them 'actualy the new la carbonita tele at $6K sells the most'. Its the way business works.

Until you stump up something I can see that says the highway1 sells more than the american standard, I wont beleive it. Until you prove your other nonsense claims like 'A vintage tone circuit' despite the modern greasebucket tone controls, 'fastest neck of any strat' why does kirk hammet choose vintage spec strats, why doesnt clapton play customshop built highway1s. Vintage tone and fast thats everything he could want in a guitar. Until you prove these wild claims (your claims being between the apostrophe marks) I will treat your statements with the derison they deserve. Like the one you made earlier in this thread about relic guitars being for posers and how they should end them now. What a line of guitars that FMIC make a good portion of their strat/tele profits out of. Can you not see the error in your thinking on that point?

Why are you comparing a Highway One with an American Standard on a topic reguarding the 'ageing' of instruments?
The HWY1 has no relicing done at all. The finish is nitrocellulose and will wear in an authentic way, but they are still very much new guitars.
has someone seen a knackered HWY1 and thought it was bought that way or are they just confused because they saw one listed in a catalogue online between a Classic Player and a Road Worn strat?
There's something special about seeing a master playing an instrument that's been 'loved to death' (btw. how cool did Mad Max's car look in the second film? Tough as nails) but 'knocking one in' like a cricket bat seems to be a bit extreme. I remember thinking Keef sending back those teles because they were too new as an entertaining story of bizzarre extravagance and laughed when I read of the new relic series.
Having got used to the idea I'm not totally opposed to it, after all, if the vibe is there then that's what music is all about, but if I can save a few bucks by dragging a guitar around myself it makes more sense. And Its comforting to know where all the dings come from. 8)

So this is how you do it your self. Go out and play as many as you can. Till you find THE ONE FOR YOU. Buy it take it home and play it as much as you can. Change the strings every week or 10 days, play out as much as you can play with others. Drag that thing everywhere with, you love it ,sweat on it play it till it hurts your fingers. And lo and behold in a few years you will have your own genuine Road Worn strat. One that you can remember ever ding ,worn spot from you arm worn spots on the neck from hours of you playing it.. And along the way you will prolly become a smoking hot player.. Just my 2 cents Markdavid

I must've been channeling this advice last night at practice when i put a dent from the side of a beer bottle top on my week old Highway One. Definately not regretting the nitro finish now...I'm too rough for poly! my squier would've had little white dots instead of little dings. I dont bash guitars, or ride them but I don't play them in a pristine environment either. Might as well embrace the character building!

Fender must give thier guitars to Yngwie Malmsteen for a few weeks, that'd do it!
I admit I don't know how to post links but checkout yngwie's guitar collection tour on youtube. Just search it...you're all big and ugly enough.
It's pretty funny...or tragic, I'm not sure yet. Just check it out, you'll know what I mean.
