I'm sorry but relic's started in 96 with one of the most respected guitarists in the industry's desire to have beat up guitars onstage. Keith Richards told Vince Cunnetto and Jay Black he wanted his guitars beat up a bit.

An offshoot of Fender's forays into replicating the look of heavily worn instruments was the introduction of the Fender Relic series in the late 1990s. This idea came as guitarist Keith Richards of the British rock group The Rolling Stones told the Custom Shop that some replicas he commissioned for a Stones tour 'looked too new', stating: "Bash 'em up a bit and I'll play 'em". His statement catalyzed with the presence of Vince Cunetto and Jay W. Black at the start of the Custom Shop. Cunetto guitars have since become known for their high level of quality and artistry among the Custom Shop Relics. The Relic models aspire to perfectly replicate vintage instruments, both in terms of the parts, design and finishes used, as well in the varying degrees of wear that would usually be found on a 40-50 year old instrument. Fender tarnishes metal parts, purposely marks and scratches paintjobs, yellows and cracks plastic parts, and burns marks in the headstock (where it can be used to tell time during jam sessions and tripping, a cigarette might be about 8 minutes) in the process to faithfully replicate the overall look of a battered old original. This move caused a controversy among players who failed to see the logic in paying a premium for a deliberately damaged instrument. Fender offers grades of wear on the relic series, from light to very heavy 'wear', and has since introduced a line of 'NOS' (new old stock) and 'Closet Classic' instruments that employ the period-correct parts, designs and finishes but do not feature faux abuse, weathering or aging.

Dont confuse that roadworn junk with art. Their very very different beasts. The relic guitars have about as much to do with Highway1's as I do with nuclear physics.

"Genius" Finally its been recognised.

Whats up with you? Did somebody leave the cage door open again and now reality is conflicting with your arrogant sense of how things should be?

man this is all opinion. its all a matter of preference. fender is in the buisness to make money just like all buinesess. so they design products that apeal to all markets. its how you keep your buisness alive. apeal to your customers

you are correct. but theres a few here if you
dont agree with them they try to make you feel
what you like or your opinion doesnt matter.
the reality is that theres 7 to 8 othere sites that
would blow these few others opinions right out
of the water. heres one for ya. the highway one
strat out sells the american standard 2 to 1 read
the reason why on these other sites is better tone versatility
better sustain and a lot of guitarist like the feel. these are
facts not my opinion and price has nothing to do with it.
here on this site you have the same 4 to 5 people who say
this guitar sucks or if you dont own this type of strat yours
aint worth a crap thats the mentality here on this site and
its all BULL SH-T! so my advice is to check out as many sites as
possible on the guitar your looking for and dont pay any attention
to the ones here.

So please post a link to where these facts are. How can you blame people for thinking your either delusional or a liar when you refuse to provide any evidence of any sort for your claims?

Remember that blue highway one you claimed was selling for $2000, then you were provided links showing them for sale at the RRP? Even then you couldnt tell us where you found such information.

Your rhetoric is old around these parts, if these other sites are so good why not use them instead, cos you get little respect on this one.

So please provide some evidence to your claims.

Or are you a liar?

I really dont give a toss what you think of me mate. Your opinion on things is very low on my priority list. Somewhere between doggy doo and avoiding alien landing sites.
Least I'm not a liar.
