I just got home from buying a 2001 MIM Strat off of craigslist. It belonged to a teenage girl, I guess someone gave it to her to learn and she was giving up on it. It has some damage, more damage than I thought. I met her in her church parking lot after service, and it was dark and the guitar color was dark. So I didn't see it had big cracks in the back and neck pocket, but I think it's just in the paint
I only paid $20 so I'm not too worried about the money part. Neck is in decent shape, has some black marks on the back, but frets are good and it's straight. I wish I would of found this guitar when I was looking to paint a guitar.
here's some pics as I got it. I havent cleaned it up any, it's missing some knobs, but I have some of those around.

Let me know what you think about the cracks. I didn't need this guitar, so I'm probably going to throw it on ebay.

how can you go wrong for 20 bucks? The pickguard costs twice that - nice find.

I had a strat and a musicmaster that was flood damaged and had similar cracks. It looks to me like it may have gotten wet... I'll try and post pics later.

Strat and frustrated teens do not mix well. It must have hit the wall/floor a few times. But hey, she's got more than $20 left in her, so you win.

Yeah hopefully. :) I took it all apart and cleaned it. It was really dirty, especially the bridge. Looks a lot better now, put some knobs on I had laying around, put some lemon oil on the fretboard, put a trem cover on, took some pickguard plastic off some screws :o and put some new strings on. Just can't do anything about the cracks.

I threw it up on ebay tonight.

Yeah not too bad. I also sold the Telecaster I bought for $90, plus $20 for a new pickup for $250.00.

I have a new craigslist buy I picked up yesterday, but I'm keeping it. It's a 2005 American Standard body that's fully loaded, was just missing the neck. I guess the guy who owned it was trying to adjust the truss rod himself and keep turning and turning until he here a pop inside the neck. Duh!

It's a beautiful sunburst, really nice grain, no dings or scratches. I put the Lace Sensor pickups in it with a black pickguard I bought today and I'm going to use the american standard pickups in the guitar I'm painting.
I'll post some pics when I get a chance.

Right now I have a 93 neck on it, but I need to have a nut put on.
