I believe the American Vintage Hot Rod '62 is the closest to a LP in the production line in terms of neck size with a 9.5" radius and fat vintage C shape. Older Jeff Beck sig strats had really beefy necks (They thinned them down on the new ones >_>), also the SRV sigs have a pretty fat neck. Try some of those out, they should give you something to wrap your hand around ^^

If you are referring to neck size, like a 12" radius. The Kenny Wayne Shepard strat has the 12" radius of a Les Paul. Fret's are Jumbo too. But tone wise, two different guitars...

Also, PRS is the perfect "in-between" guitar for the Fender and Gibson players out there...

What type of Les Paul neck feel, 50's or 60's? I think strats are more consistant in their necks from intrument to instrument. Many of the C shaped necks that I've tried feel almost the same, yes there were differences but minor, at least to me. I have a Les Paul Custom that I love the neck on and I have played many ( all customs ) since I bought mine back in the 70's and haven't found one exactly like mine. Some close and some now where near to mine. The 50's profile is thicker than the 60's profile.

I'm a fan of the fat necks. I've got big hands, and chording just feels more comfortable on a thick 50's type neck.

Unfortunately I don't have a 50's guitar budget, and my GC budget gives me no options for buying a beefy neck guitar. 99% of the GC offerings have thin necks. Ibanez especially... their necks feel like I'm playing a yardstick.

Gibson uses several neck thicknesses. Measurements are taken between the d and g strings straight through to the middle of the back of the neck. These measurements are Gibson's specs (Yes, I did get them from Gibson) and may vary slightly from neck to neck.

ReIssue 50's .900 at the 1st fret and 1.0 at the 12th fret
LP 50's Style .818 at the 1st fret and .963 at the 12th fret
LP 60's Style .800 at the first fret and .850 at the 12th fret.

ReIssue 60's and LP 60's are the same measurements.

Do not measure the fret wire.

If you can't budget a thick neck guitar, you can get a thick replacement neck from warmoth or any number of others.

I have a 62 Hot Rod Strat and the neck does feel very thick and chunky which feels good to me. But the 57 Hot Rod is just the opposite. Extremely slim which I wish they wouldn't have done.

It does seem like most Fender necks have a slimmer feel to them.
