Has anyone ever watched Andy Aledort's lesson's on comcast on demand? He's playing an old, beat up strat, but it sounds great - truss rod adjustment is not on the headstock - would that be late 50's? It's a great sounding guitar, and he does great lessons. This month he has Cinnamon Girl - although I don't think Neil Young ever played a strat.

Has he put a dot back in the neck yet? Man that axe is buggered! I wouldn't recommend some of his flashyer tricks to anyone wanting to preserve their instrument...you don't need to slam the pick from 2 feet above the pickups hard as you can to get a scratchy tone and recomending it to beginners is a little reckless. His pinch-harmonics technique is woeful and the sound of his whammy bar clunkin around from that stupid abuse is horrible.
SRV may have rode his strat across the stage but he could afford it and got techs to fix it up.
Strats are strong but it's best not to show youngsters this stuff, they'll wreck a squire soon as they get the chance.
But then again, not like he's hiding the end result...

It's a 1961. Check out Andy's own story about it:

I haven't watched the video (yet), however there were some special Strat's in the '80's with the truss rod adjustment under the pickguard....

I will say this about Andy, I dont think anyone can play note for note covers of Hendrix in the world better than him. That is not to say he is not a unique player in his own right or a put down. But if you go through any old magazine tabs or books on Hendrix he has done 90% of them. He has also played with all the surviving members of the Experience and Band of Gypsies. His VHS tape on how to play the songs from Are You Experienced is a must have for anyone wanting to learn the workings of Jimis style. Also scarily dead on.
