I have 3 MIJ Fenders, and they all have "Made in Japan" written on them. 2 have it written on the headstock under the name, and my '72 RI has it written on the neck heel.
Fender is pretty good about indicating country of origin on there guitars reguardless of origin. I would steer clear of any neck that did not indicate MIJ, MIA, MIM, or wherever.
