Is the hole the same size on the American Standard as it is on the American Deluxe? I want to fit Fender locking tuners to the Standard. (Having slated them in favour of the vintage ones a few weeks ago... )

I put a set of locking tuners on a mim strat that slotted straight in...I would assume it wouldn't be any different on an AM Standard.

Did both sets of tuners have a pair of locating lugs that slot into the headstock?

Anyway... easiest thing is, I'll take off the low E later and find out for myself...

VerySlowHand,

The Fender locking tuners will fit the MIA headstock without any modifications. I've done it several times. Save the old tuners in case you sell the instrument later.

If your holes look like this

Remember that not all Schaller locking tuners are created equal even if they are for 6-in-a-line. I made the mistake of buy Schaller tuners and not Fender-Schaller tuners for my MIK Strat and ended up having to drill tiny holes in the headstock for locating screws. It was also a fairly time consuming job aligning the tuners before drilling so that everything look square, plumb and even.

Just think of how awesome a guitar player you could have been by now if you had only spent the last 10 years practicing instead of obsessing over pickups and roasted maple necks.

I bought Fender-Schaller tuners, with the two little locating lugs that slot into the headstock. Thanks.

I had to return a set to Musicians Friend for the same reason. They used the wrong picture on the website. The pic shows the Fender set, but the ones that came had the screw hole on the opposite side.
