It would be cheaper to just buy a guitar with the neck radius you want.

Its entirely possible to flatten the radius of the neck. I suspect you could arch it too, if your clever.

Not something I'd attempt on a whim, and thats saying a lot. The idea of cutting the dots back in horrifies me, never mind the refinishing and refret.

I think its a waste of time personaly. The results yeilded by the mod will in no way be worth the cost of doing the work. If you look at a 19" circles curve line then look at a 24" circles curve line, theres little difference. The differences in playing are negligible. If you spent a quater of the money the mod would likely cost on a setup or parts, you'd notice a greater difference.

niki, you should know as well as anybody that there's a very large difference in feel between 7.25" and 12". Comparing 19 and 24 inch radii, which would probably both feel equally hyper-flat, is irrelevant.

But i agree that buying a new neck would be the hot set-up.

I was talking diameter. Its the way were taught to think here, half of diameter is radius, not double radius is diameter. Though their both exactly the same way of thinking. 19" being 2x 9.5" and 24" being 2x 12".

Basicaly the difference comes from me being taught radi'i/diameter's with division, not multiplication.

I did a quick calculation. At the spot in the neck where it's 1.5" wide, the difference between a 7.25" and a 12" radius is only an extra 0.015" in thickness (at the middle of the neck).

I don't know about you, but I can adapt pretty quickly from playing a Strat to a Les Paul.

A good luthier might be able to give the frets on a 7.25" radius neck a radius of 9.5 or even 12" (provided there's enough fret height to begin with).
