Hwy 1 off the strength of it being made in USA and LESS than 1000 alone. Agreed you won't be disappointed, it was my first choice in Tele's when I was looking for one under $800

Hello Bytwax,

Those Mexico made guitars are a real nice product.
Good quality and reliability and nicely finished.
I owned one for 12 years & never had a problem.

The Highway one is a bit better and if you can afford
it that would be my choice. Going up the scale the
American Standard is more appealing and the cost
goes up, you get the idea.

Best of luck with your choice,
and don't forget a photo for the forum.

Cheers.

Having played many many Fender MIM Stratocasters, I was never satisified with what I played in the stores. So I ended up buying a Squier CV 60 in lieu of a Fender (MIM) Standard. I also own a Highway 1 Stratocaster and it blows the MIM Standard out of the water.

Ultamately it depends on what you are looking for. The MIM Standard Stratocaster is a great guitar to start modifiying, but IMO you have start modifying it as soon as you get it. The Highway 1 you can leave alone if you want to, and later down the road modify to suit your needs (should you feel inclined).

In short, if you have the money to spend on a Highway 1, get the Highway 1. If you are a little strapped for dough, buy the MIM Standard (or do what I did and just get a Squier Classic Vibe).

Highway One all the way.

Nothing is devastatingly wrong with the MIM's, but they are what they are.

In my experience, the Highways are smoother playing, better sounding, and better made.
