Basically, I want to know what they're like to play. Are they much better than a mexican?

I've played a few, but not really played you know? Just want to know how they are after a few years of use, if they're "sex on a strap" basically.

Post back if you have time!

I have a american delux strat and its the best guitar I've owned. The american made strats hold their value better.

I have MIM strat and upgraded the PU's.
Not the best Strat i ever owned but for it's price it is the best.
It's better then most '70s Fenders.

In my opinion the only thing better in the American, next to the mexican, is the pickups, their better, no doubt about it. I have a standard mexican and for my taste it feels just as good as the american, but the pickups are weak though. But people usually change pickups and hardware anyway, so one is just as good as the other I guess, depending on your taste of course.

You could pretty much drop a set of good pickups in a boat paddle and hear a big improvement, hehe.

My problem with the Mexi's is the electronics suck, metric standards (not interchangeable with American strats), and the finish is so damn thick the guitar can barely resonate. But it is a great first guitar.

Electronics, never had a problem.Using American parts, no problem.
Japanese use metric. Thick finish i'll agree but so did the '70s Fenders.

Take this for what its worth........ I owned a MIM and the neck bend frequently. Not being able to figure this out, I went to my local luthier who is a 20+ experienced lutheir and heck of a musician. He said the necks and body's of the MIM's are not cured properly at the factory so the wood is prone to warping. He sees the same thing on the bolt on schecters and thinks its the curing process not being allowed enough time.

I've got an am. deluxe too, and i saw that remark you made about american strats being "sex on a strap". In order to play mine properly, you got to handle it gently, like you handle a lady. As i mostly play punk rock, it's tough, the picks are so sensitive, but on the other hand, the sound i get out if it is divine.

As i said, it's sounds great when played more gently and melodically. I don't play harsh punk rock, i play more melodic stuff. I use my ibanez sz for the harder riffs, but my strat adds a more unique sound. I can't play stuff that i play on my ibanez, on my fender. It won't sound nice, but the am. deluxe is perfect for jamming around with cool melodies and more funklike and bluesy riffs. I'm not all about punk.

Who said I handle ladies gently? Haha no I'm not a wife-beater. Women are wonderful. Especially my fiancee. Mmmm.

I have had 3 MIM calssic series strats and 2 MIJ strats...and just recently got my first MIA strat..I always thought the guys who said the MIA Fenders were snobs and a little full of themselves...but after owning one...therte is a difference. IMHO a guitar is what you make of it...remember SRV`s number one was a pawnshop grab and Blackie was made up of a few strats found in the back of a music store that nobody wanted, and we dont need to be reminded of what they mean to us. I like my MIA but the MIM and MIJ guitars are good too...its what you do with them that matters and if you like what you play then who cares if its a CS or a telephonepole with strings....my 0.2 worth. :)
