Nevermind jus saw the pics, with the V serial number it looks to be an early vintage reissue. And the brown tear drop at the head is normal for 50s reissues. Check this :

Also the Serial number on the plate makes it a AVRI

AVRIs do use those saddles, I've seen them on the 57 at a local shop.

I believe its an Older AVRI

Your first picks made me wonder if it was a JV strat. By the serial number on the neckplate it could be either a 96-97 Japanese strat.

Right! Plus, an American Vintage Reissue doesn't use those bridge saddles, but MIM or MIJ reissues do. You might want to measure the string spread, low E to high E, at the saddles.

so you measure how far from low E to high E with a ruler? what is the measurement i'll be looking for to determine what model/year it is?

felling better now that i have some more info. thank you Yogi. What does AV mean? I'm assuming American Vintage? What year would you think this is? Any ideas on value? Like I said before I got it free from a good friend who has many many guitars so I didn't think it was a fake, but wasnt sure.

I think it may be a 70s body with a later reissue neck. Take the neck off and see if it used to have a 3bolt

3 bolt as in 3 screws? Newbie here, sorry about the noob question

American Vintage Re-Issue ( AVRI ). I'm not sure of the year b/c AVRI and Signature Series guitars have weird serial numbers, you'll have to email Fender. The Early 80s Fullerton Reissues are going for 2-4 thousand I believe at the moment. If it is a more recent one 1-2k used is the price.

Scratch that comment, that was before I saw the rest of the pics. But 70s strats had 3 bolt necks instead of 4 bolt necks ( Screws). At first because of the definitely yellowed body I thought it might have been a 70s body that someone had re-drilled for a 4-bolt and later added a reissue neck. Its definitely a Vintage Reissue going at these new pics

A couple of things don't seem right about that guitar. No serial number for a Fender is not correct. It should have one somewhere on it(headstock front or back, neckplate, back of neck near body)
Also, the neck does not fit the body neck pocket well at all. Look at how much of the body shows next to where the neck is mounted. That would not come from Fender like that, it is just too much neck pocket showing. maybe the neck is Fender, but the body is something else. Also, the strings don't align with the neck well at all. The polepieces don't line up with the strings, and the strings are too far too the bass side.
Too many weird things to be sure this is a 100% Fender guitar. Just my 2 cents.

i think the color actually is yellow though, maybe i cant tell but it looks like it is yellow and not a cream turned yellow. Supposedly it is a 78-82 according to original owner.

Question, I was thinking about having a setup done on it as some of the strings really really need to be changed...is this a good or bad idea?

the neck is flush with the pocket, the first pick was taken at an angle so it appears that way, i checked that last night first thing after someone else mentioned it.

If its an '82 Fullerton Reissue its worth the big bucks. Getting a setup done won't harm anything, but I wouldn't change out any parts. You can check the original color by checking under the pickguard. But I think it used to be cream/white

Check out my 81

wow, that is a nice guitar!! I'll try to look under the pickguard tonight. I'm hesitant to do anything to it really since I was thinking it may be valuable but the strings have to be changed as some of them are getting rusty, maybe need to clean out the bridge too.

I'm guessing that from here for more info it'll have to be disassembled?

Pretty much. Its pretty simple to do, just make sure you keep all the screws together. Or just take it to a Luthier if you don't trust yourself doing it. Or you can send it to me. It may take 25-50 years to figure out what it is, but I'll take real good care of it

You have to be careful! The American and the Import saddles are similar (but note the difference) and aren't the same width.
The "Fender Fender" of his saddles matches the Ping Imports below:
