I hate to be the one to say it but I don't believe either of those 2 guitars are genuine Fenders. Unless there is more info from much more detailed pics. Sorry DBR. Hope I'm wrong! :(

Don't be disheartened my friend as I'm no expert and could easily be wrong. Maybe one of our more knowledgeable members can tell for sure.

ayeeeeee pucha, que terible!!

It's a surprise for me because he is an collector and has lots of older Les pauls and Fenders that I knowa re legit. Maybe I now know why he gave them to me!! i'm still very happy with them! They play nice and that's fine by me!

More detailed pics, can I take those without taking the strat apart? if so tell me what you want to see

Nice looking guitar but I have no idea why it would not have a serial number. And you say the truss adjustment is at the butt?

yeah no serial # on the front or back of headstock, truss rod adjust and butt of neck. havent taken it apart, hesitant to do that myself. I'll get pics of the bridge, back, headstock etc tonight and post em. I like it too, it was always one of my fav Strats of his and he has like 10. Haven't seen that yellow color too often

Looks like a truss rod hole by the nut?

it's filled in completely
  :?:

no hole there, only at the base of the neck

It must just be the picture then because it looks like a truss hole at the head. The serial number thing is of concern. Pics from under the hood would be nice and closer to the headstock front and back. Might help the ID process.

yeah thats the first thing i noticed was no hole at the headstock. the hole is definitely at the end of the neck and the headstock location is just filled in or a brown wood spot. I'm taking it in for a setup asap so I'll have him take it apart and get all the pics. I was really hoping it wa a real Fender, but it was free so I can't complain.

A filled in brown wood spot is not right!!!! May have been some kind of truss rod rescue performed.

hey Hopkins, what about the Tele looks off? That's the one I liked the most! It has Kinman Broadcaster pickups in it and puts out some seriously good sounds!

I think a 52 RI should have only 3 barrel saddles and the decal does not look right to me. I checked a decal on a 52 ri and it looked different. Go to Musician's friend or a site like that and compare the two. Like I said I could be wrong.

Your first picks made me wonder if it was a JV strat. By the serial number on the neckplate it could be either a 96-97 Japanese strat. Or it could be an American vintage. Single ply PG makes me think 57 RI. Does it have a slight V neck?

Here's the link I used for the serial number:

Right! Plus, an American Vintage Reissue doesn't use those bridge saddles, but MIM or MIJ reissues do. You might want to measure the string spread, low E to high E, at the saddles.

I think it may be a 70s body with a later reissue neck. Take the neck off and see if it used to have a 3bolt

now that you mention it, it does feel like the V necks I have played at guitar genter and a lot different than the 9.5 on my telecaster. Are you thnking it's a REAL Fender based on the info you provided? havent had a chance to take it apart yet , not going to do that on my own.
