i had it propped up on the case so that might be it, i hadnt noticed from looking at it in person. someone else will know more than me though.

I know he hadnt played it in some time so it needs some TLC for sure. probably a little setup and some new strings.

Is it just me and my inexperience, or is that large overhang of neck pocket under the neck end, suggestive of something not all together legit?

Or is this how an example of how far 70s CBS strats fell in terms of their quality?

It's not just you. The pocket and the neck should be flush to each other there. Probably a parts guitar but DBR likes it.

CRAP, parts guitar!?!?!?! :( Thought I had me a vintage!

I'll check on the neck pocket, either way, I'm thrilled! As many on here have brought to my attention, MIM, MIA, Fender, Carvin, etc...if it plays nice who cares! Thanks for the feedback guys an dwill let you know abut the neck pocket

Hopkins, what else should I take pics of in order to determine if its a parts or real without taking it apart?

Can't speak for Hopkins, but it might be worth you slackening off the strings and (very carefully - with the correct sized screwdriver) undoing the neck mounting screws.

There should be dates in the neck pocket and at the end of the neck..

Nice looking guitar but I have no idea why it would not have a serial number. And you say the truss adjustment is at the butt?

yeah no serial # on the front or back of headstock, truss rod adjust and butt of neck. havent taken it apart, hesitant to do that myself. I'll get pics of the bridge, back, headstock etc tonight and post em. I like it too, it was always one of my fav Strats of his and he has like 10. Haven't seen that yellow color too often

I hate to be the one to say it but I don't believe either of those 2 guitars are genuine Fenders. Unless there is more info from much more detailed pics. Sorry DBR. Hope I'm wrong! :(

Don't be disheartened my friend as I'm no expert and could easily be wrong. Maybe one of our more knowledgeable members can tell for sure.
