I got this as a got from a friend of mine believe it or not. I don't have a lot of info and there are no serial numbers on it but given that he is a collector I can't imagine it is a copy, but maybe thats why he gave it to me? truss rod adjustment at body end of neck, no serial on front or back of headstock. Nice yellow color I havent seen much. Any ideas about the year, make, etc?

Based on the truss-rod ring, tuners, and bridge, it looks like a MIA (Made in America) vintage model. Suh - weet.

There will be others that will chime in with much more knowledge than me. Stay tuned.
Some people here can tell you what the person who wound your pickups had for lunch that day.

Oh, and welcome. Stay awhile.

when you say vintage you mean like VINTAGE as in pre 1980? or like a vintage reissue? He told me it was a 78 but the smaller headstock leads me to believe its an early 80's. It doesnt say MIA on the headstock and the headstock looks almost as if there are "stickers" on it. How are the decals usually applied to headstocks on old fenders? or is it normal that you can see where they were applied after so many years?>

And thanks for the welcome, i'm a newbie to both guitars and this site for the most part, but theres a really good crew of contributors here. cheers!

Like Morpheus told Neo in "The Matrix":

They are applied and then coated.

Old old old strats decals were applied over top of the finish and yeah they show bad.

Congrats DBR! What did he say about it? He gave it to you? Glad you've got your guitar now instead of waiting until Wednesday! :)
What is in the tweed case underneath yours?
Odd that there are no serial numbers. Can you take some more detailed pics for us?

thanks fhopkins. Well he has like 30 guitars and is a very good friend, but I still couldnt believe it! He said he believed it to be a 1978-1981 and didn't know the rest of the details. With no serials numbers and without taking it apart I wasn't sure what else to check. I'm hoping It's a 78 because thats my birth year and would make ti more special for me.

Yeah! I dont have to wait for the Squier Standard until Weds now, but still cant wait for that one. I am definitely over my extreme case of GAS, for this month at least...!

The tweed case below has a 1952 reissue Tele (1982 model, first year of reissue supposedly?), i wa allowed to borrow that one, it's my fave and he knows that but wouldn't part with it!

I hear you man! Getting a new guitar is like the best natural high you can get. Hard to put them down! 8)
I'm still confused about not having a serial number but who cares as long as you like the feel of it and enjoy playing it!! :)

me too, i may end up having to take it apart to fins out about the serials or dates. at this point if it ended up being a fake, it plays so nicely it wouldnt bother me one bit.

Is it just me and my inexperience, or is that large overhang of neck pocket under the neck end, suggestive of something not all together legit?
Or is this how an example of how far 70s CBS Strats fell in terms of their quality?

Maybe it's the photo angle, but that bass E string looks precariously perched on the neck also - wouldn't take much to slide that over the edge.. All things considered, and add in the lack of serial number too, that surely isn't the neck the guitar left the factory with?

Nice looking guitar though..
