Musician's Friend, zzounds and Music123 are all listing the Standard Stratocaster as discontinued. It seems strange to me that Fender wouldn't have this guitar available for the Christmas buying season. Anybody know what's up with that?

I do know that this is the second thread on this subject in as many days. Is something weird going on with the MF website or something?

I can see them fine o_O

Might be a region thing, they might not be shipping internationally anymore.

I see nothing there about either guitar being discontinued. What am I missing?

You know what it was? When I searched "Fender Standard Stratocaster" in Google the top listed links to zzounds, Guitar Center, Musician's Friend are all pointing to 'Discontinued Product' listings.

Google's search engine must have last updated to those "discontinued" pages. I thought I was going crazy after following the links you guys posted up.

This is the page on Google's search results: http://guitars.musiciansfriend.com/product/Fender-Standard-Stratocaster-Electric-Guitar?sku=516037

Google/Musician's Friend is a good way to look up some information, or even get a look at some discontinued products. If Musician's Friend carried it, they have the description page(s) archived, along with the pictures, and you can look at the user ratings, which would be useful for "do I really want to buy this 'x' used guitar (etc.) that's on craigslist?"

Surely the MIM Standard Strat must be Fender's biggest seller? I'd certainly be interested to know..

I would bet that their biggest seller is either the Squier Bullet or the Starcaster pack.

The reason for why it says discontinued in that link is because that is the old MIM standard in '09 they upgraded the whole line....

I went to Guitar Center yesterday and inquired about the Fender American Standard Stratocaster and they only had two left on their shelves. I asked the sales representative if they would be receiving anymore because I had gone to their website and none were available. He stated he was not sure. I also mentioned that I had called the Online Guitar Center Website and spoke to a customer representative who checked the inventory and was not able to locate the item. She informed me that it does not seem that they will be receiving anymore and it is possible that some retail stores may still have some. The salesman at Guitar Center also checked the site and also found it strange when he could not find any Fender American Standard Stratocasters and questioned some of the other sales representatives, who had no idea that they were not available at their website. The best answer they could offer was that it could be possible that they are working on the 2010 models. Yes it is true that you can find some website that still offer the Fender American Standard Stratocaster, but for how long? It could be possible that they selling the only ones that they have left? Considering these facts I bought one of the American Standard Strats Guitar Center had left. If you have one more power to you they are great guitars. If you don’t you should not be alarmed because there is a large arrayment of various Stratocasters to buy. It is just this particular model (American Standard Stratocaster) that seems to be few in number. I just found it unusual that the Fender American Standard Strat is not available at Guitar Center Website and that some of their retail store only have a few left.

I'm not sure I'm understanding this right or possibly the website was having technical difficulties when you performed your search, but I just searched the Guitar Center Website and found no shortage of the Fender American Standard Stratocaster.

http://www.guitarcenter.com/Fender-Amer ... 1385900.gc

Plenty of color and RW/M neck options and I checked several different types using the store locator search and found that 3 of the closest stores to me carry a few varieties.

It makes sense now because all I did was type "Fender Standard Stratocaster" into Google and clicked on the links at the top of the list. I guess I should have typed "Current in-stock model of the Fender Standard Stratocaster". :)

Actually I should have just gone straight to the reseller website like you guys did.

I just went to the Online Guitar Center Website and put in Fender American Standard Stratocaster Electric Guitar and the only Standard Stratocasters that are available are the HSS, Lefty, and the 2009 Special Editions. I'm talking about the Right Handed American Standard Stratocaster with the single coil pickups for this year not the Special Editions. There are none at this site. In the past several weeks I have saved the page from Guitar Center for the Fender American Standard Stratocaster when they were available and when I press that link it shows the Fender American Standard Stratocaster, but when I do a new search at the Guitar Center site the only American Standard Stratocaster available are those that I previously mentioned. No Fender American Standard Stratocaster on a fresh search.
