I recently purchased a gibson custom shop ES 339 but I'm just not gelling with it. I have an american strat and I jammed last night and I didn't pick up the 339 once. I thought i would really love it but I just can't get away from fender guitars.

Mind you that I am having a couple problems with the 339, the intonation is oput and there are many buzzes on it and it just discourages me from getting anything else like it. I think I'm going to take it back this week, and get something else or nothing at all. I just love my strat that much.

As it should be.

Haha! :D

Mind you, I thought the 339 was one of Gibson's better recent ideas. I tried one in a shop and found it a serious contender. Good price, too.

dylanger, if yours has buzz and similar issues consider whether simple set up procedures might address these before giving up on the guitar.

After all, it is perfectly legal to like Strats and, ahem, other brands of guitar...

Cheers - C

Ya I know its easy to set up a guitar but it shouldn't need a set up when its brand new out of the custom shop. Those guys are supposed to be the best luthiers of the company and I just can't see it being worth of the Custom shop sticker.

Sometimes they'll take the Custom Shop apprentices and assign a model to them to build. The Non-Reverse Firebird series is an example of this.

You need to consider that the guitar was shipped from the climate controlled manufacturer to wherever you live, through whatever climate changes it endured. I dont believe you can ever expect to buy a guitar and not have a setup done. Sometimes you get lucky and it works out that way, but not always.
