Hi everyone, I just wanted to let everyone know that someone broke into my house, while I was sleeping, and stole my 57 RI stratocaster!
I've had that guitar for 22 years, and I had just gotten it broken in,
I dont have the serial number, all I know is it started with a V, like all reissue guitars, If anyone can tell me how to retrive my serial #, either from fender, or some other way, It would be most appreciated, I'm just sick over this,
If my guitar can never be found, I'd like some suggestions as to what sort of replacement I should get

Wow I cant believe this as my friend that owns the guitar store I hang in and does all my work just had someone break into his home while he and his wife and kid were sleeping and robbed four guitars. This was in NY. The thing is he never sets his alarm. I really could not tell you how to retrieve the serial # after 22 years and believe me I know how sick you are feeling. I would check all the local guitar and pawn shops in your area to see if someone came in trying to sell it. Anyone else reading this LOG YOUR SERIAL NUMBERS IN A BOOK. Every ax I own is logged and I read a story where Eric Johnson had a few of his vintage axes robbed and found them in a store in Texas and got them back after 10 years as he had his numbers logged.

Thats a terrible thing to have happen Brett. Did you fill out and send in the registration when you bought it? If so, then maybe if you e-mail Fender Consumer Relations they could retrieve the info. I hope you get it back safe and sound and I wish the thief could be punished the way they did horse thieves in the old days.

Brett, I know this is highly unlikely but, did you keep any of the hang tags?

A phonecall to customer services with some of that info may help. Other than that I'm affraid your going to have to go through your photo albums and see if any pictures bring it to light.

That said we've seen a few people around here who have suffered instrument theft. Unfortunately I cant recall one of them who got their gear back. Despite having the serial no' and plenty of pictures they couldnt be positively identified. Neck plates are easy to change, which is where the serial no' resides.

Myself I note the serial and codes in the neckpocket, pickup cavities. I also sign my name on the neck pocket and under the pickguard. Even thats not foolproof though, but most thieves dont look there.

Sorry for your loss. Try a 57 RI or a 57 hotrod. The clapton is loosely based on a 57 too, but a very different beast.

Man that has got to be really crappy.

I would just check all over eBay, craigslist, local classifieds, pawn shops, anywhere that has guitars. Don't give up, odds are he's not a guitar player and he has to sell it sometime. Hope you get him and your guitar back!

Sorry to hear about your guitar, but at least something worse didn't happen.

Wow that really sucks. Sorry for your loss. I have been robbed during the middle of the night as well.

Since then I have snapped pictures and written the serial numbers of all my equipment in my safe. I recently put a wall hanger in my room to put my #1 guitar on while I sleep. I really do not want anything to happen to it after I spent all the time and money to make it the Strat of my dreams.

Although I would sorely miss any of my equipment if it were stolen, my Fender Stratocaster would be a serious blow to me. I also sleep with a huge pig sticker next to the bed and a loaded gun somewhere close by to me. I feel sorry for the poor bastard that tries to rob me in my own house (again), let alone come into my room while I sleep.

I hope you are able to find your guitar and put the SOB behind bars (at least for a few days).

THAT seems more than just a random pick on the part of the perp. Someone's got an inside on this dude. Are you aware that Santana's #1 was recovered by the guys at Royal Music on Rockaway Pkwy, literally crossing the country after being stolen on the West Coast several years ago? These things do turn up, but your friend, given his business background, hopefully has some papers on this somewhere.

Hi all, feeling much better, dont have a line on my strat yet, but I'm curious to hear from the group what a replacement should be, I'm thinking a mutt, like Eric Clapton's Blackie,
any suggestions?

Why don't you buy another 57 Reissue? Especially if you really liked that model?

First off I don't know what a mutt is. Second if you buy a Fender you're getting Fender. It's not like you buy a Strat and get Gibson components.
