American strats have a litle spring that drops inside the hole for the trem arm. Keeps the arm snug. When you remove the trem arm the spring usually gets lost. U can buy a bag at yer guitar store.

Sorry to say but you probably have some bad threads somewhere, either on the tremolo arm or in the block, somethings just trying to crossthread. Take your tremolo arm out and look at the threads real close and see if you can notice if their scarred up or anything like that. If the arm threads look fine, you might want to find a long bolt with the same threads and see how well it will screw into the block. You should be able to find out what the problem is that way.

If it's the arm, just buy you another one. But if it's the block, take the guitar back and let Fender see about it. One thing I wouldn't do is take it like it is back to the store or wherever it is that you bought it from and let some stupid employee kid play around with it and make it worse, then you risk it all being on you.

By the way, the SRV signature was a good choice.

I just got the new American Standard Strat and I have problems with the tremelo bar right out of the box...Not even 24 hours old and its in for repairs. The hole in the block was drilled at an angle and I can`t screw the bar on, the holes didn`t line up with the bridge either. The new block is currently on order but if I were you I wouldn`t force or lubricate anything. Take it to your local dealer and have them look at it. You may have the same problem as I do.

Take it back to where you got it and they will correct it.
