^ Thanks Jim.

Opinions always appreciated. Even more so from those more experienced than me willing to take the time to help out and offer those opinions.

I have about a years experience noodling and fiddling with guitars, nothing serious though until I decided to get off my arse and start proper lessons recently.

Always looking for the best bang for my buck that I can and wanting the best from what I have. Not looking at spending packets of dosh however. I just wondered if a string tree change was a cheap but worthy change to make my strat my user friendly.

Thanks again for the info!

Just think of how awesome a guitar player you could have been by now if you had only spent the last 10 years practicing instead of obsessing over pickups and roasted maple necks.

I'd be curious to know why some guitarists place there string trees farther from the nut. For example, the John Mayer guitar lists this as one of the unique features of the guitar. I would love to know why this is done and what is hoped to gain from it.

The further away the string trees the looser the feeling which effects the fretting and bending. For tuning the string has the same tension from nut to bridge but the string tree changes the ability to move the string on the fret board.
