Isn't there usually a hole there where the truss rod ends at the headstock? I might not be using the right words but do most or all true Fenders have a hole there on the headstock? Ive seen some with a hole and some without/filled in. Any ideas?

The truss rod access has been located at different places at differet times, sometime adjustable on the body end, sometimes by the headstock and sometimes bullet-style.

i ask because i was looking at an older strat my friend bought today and noticed where there is a hole on my headstock, his has the hole filled in and I wasn't sure if this varied from strat to strat. so you have seen them with the hole completely filled in the color of the skunk line?

So you are saying there was a hole there and it has been filled in?

All before the 70's bullet trussrod guitars had a walnut plugged hole in the headstock. Vintage reissues have them also. Post 68 strats have truss adjustment at the headstock end.

nah it looks like there never was a hole, it is just a spot there where there would normally be a hole

i'm guessing the strat i saw was some type of vintage reissue, maybe a 50's reissue but i have never seen the Yellow color that is was. It was like a pale yellow but not a cream color.

early Fenders had the truss rod adjustment at the body end (you needed to remove the pickguard to adjust the truss rod). Once Leo got his head straight he moved the adjustment to the headstock end and life was better.

Bear in mind that because of the modular nature of their guitars almost nothing with Fender is 100% "carved in stone". However, the truss rod adjustment moved from the body end of the neck to the "bullet" truss rod adjustment above the nut sometime in 1971. After that, in 1981 they started with vintage reissues with the adjustment back at the body and the 'Elite' series Stratocasters with the adjustment (non "bullet") above the nut. Hope this answered your question.
