You are describing the Stratocaster Elite:

I had two of them. To me, they were lifeless acoustically and/or electrically. They were heavy and hung on your neck like a Les Paul. The electronics weren't all that great, the necks were a bit unstable in the sense that I constantly had to keep adjusting them; intonating them was always a chore and the tremolo system 'bit the big one'. In general, they weren't made all that great at all. The only positive thing I have to say about them was that you could have the neck and bridge pickups on at the same time (for whatever that's worth). I had a hard time getting rid of them even though I had a feeling they'd be worth a few bucks SOME day. In retrospect, I'm still glad I unloaded them when I did. YMMV.

And where's my manners? Welcome!

Hello Minipenguin22,

I owned one for about 25 years.
Sold it just a couple years back.
It was it mint condition and brought
a good dollar {$1700}.
It stayed minty fresh cause I never played it.
I never realy warmed up to it, too much of a
hybrid I suppose.

On the upside it came with a super nice case.

Cheers.

Fender players tend to be a conservative bunch (we don't really like radical changes to our Strats and Teles) so the Elites while decent guitars were overlooked. The HM Strat and Talon model failed for the same reasons.

THe Elites were pretty cool and sounded good, just nothing "more special" than your regular Strats.

I love mine. I have the trem set on the body - hardtail style - because I don't use it - so it's not an issue. Great flat 12" radius fretboard with jumbo frets & active electronics. Sweet.
