Hi,

Just took delivery of my first electric guitar - beautiful American Strat.

I looked at fitting the tremlo arm, but it seems that the hole it's meant to fit into is blocked with a metal plug.

How do I get this plug out? Should it be there?

I did a search, but all of the posts concern problems with actually screwing the arm in - not the plug.

Also, any pointers to any posts on set-up that people think I should look at.

Thanks in advance.

Are you sure it’s a plug and not a chrome coated sticker. All of my Strats came with a sticker covering the hole……maybe post a picture of this, you have peaked my courteously.

Cheers
Bill

Hello Scoobiedoo,

Firstly welcome to this forum.

After you peel the sticker off there is a wee tiny LOOSE spring
in there. If it falls out you may never find it again.
That's really Ok as you don't ultimitly need it, it just puts a bit
of pressure on the bar. If you do love it head over to your
Fender dealer and you can get a pack of 12 for a few bucks.

Have fun playin that new guitar.

Cheers.

Hi,

Thanks for the advice and the welcome.

Just a quickie - when I play the open sixth string low e firmly it's quite 'buzzy' at the neck. OK when fretted and the rest are OK when played open.

I never get this on my acoustic unless it's really loose and out of tune.

It is in-tune when this happens by the way.

Sorry if it seems a silly question, but as I said earlier it's my first electric.

Thanks,

Sounds like the string is hitting the 1st fret - weird for a new guitar. Does it look like the nut slot is cut low? The saddle?

Should be about .016 to .018 clearance between the string and fret.

Did you have it set up? Sounds like a low action. Check out the Fender setup guide on this site or take it to a pro.
