I have a squier classic vibe 50s (original life) which was transformed to the EC Blackie "tribute". 50ties look and current electronics with vintage noiseless pickups.

I am not too crazy with the VN pickup in the bridge and I use mostly neck and bridge pickups on their own. Sooooo I had an idea to make this thing souding differently than my other strats and ES 335 and SG bridge tones came as inspiration.

I was thinking of following setup:
1. neck pickup - VN on 250k pot as it is
2. bridge pickup - Gibson classic 57 on 500K (this pot came with VN set and I never used it (I still have 1M pots from the same set).
3. new three way switch - since I want to use pickups individually or combo.
4. custom S H pickguard - my brother can CNC cut this out of fancy plastic that his shop is using for commercial signs..

Does anybody have any experience with the pickups so the strat can sound somewhat similar to ES 335 or SG (I know these two beasts are different but either souds are cool to my ears)

Suggestions?

Thanks ahead

Using a 250K pot for the VN will surely optimize the pickup. Yet, the VN is what it is and it will merely sound like a decent, quiet Strat pickup in a Strat, nothing more.

Of course, using a 500K pot with a 57 Classic will surely optimize this pickup. However, at best it will sound like a P-90 in a Firebird.

There are MANY pickups out there which will help a Strat mimic the tonality of an SG although they have to be more powerful than even the 57 Classic ilk. A Duncan Custom immediately comes to mind along with to a lesser extent, the Angus Signature HB. As to one which mimics the 3D aspects of a 335 in a Strat, I have yet to experience one in my over 40 years in this field.

YMMV.
