a 1987 Fender Squier strat with a system 1 locking trem, that looks like this one, only in red.
Image

And a 1987 left handed squier(im not a lefty, but reminds me of Jimi's and thought it would be cool to play upside down
Image

And a peavey studio chorus 210 amp that looks like this, but this isnt the same amp.
Image

For a 1991 Fender strat plus?

What do you guys think?

two squier's and a solid state amp for an american plus.......I'd do it, as long as i had another amp of the strat plus' quality to play it on. If you don't have any sentimental attachments, do what your head thinks is right. I'd rather have one awesome guitar then two okie dokie ones and an ok (not bad, not awesome) amp. 2 cents

Well, I have a 1988 Strat Plus that's my main guitar, but I also already have a 1987 squier strat too.

I figure vaule wise it's about the same, the 87 squiers go for about $325 each, and the amp between $75-100. And Strat Plus' usually go in the $700 range.

BTW, I'm the one with the plus, and would be getting the squiers.

If I were offered this trade I know right off what my answer would be. Heeeeeck no. Of course everyone is different. Me, I just have a big warm spot for MIA Fenders. Look at it this way, years from now will you be kicking yourself for letting go of the MIA for the 2 Squiers? And also, the amp is so-so, not great by any means and as said already, a solid state. You do what you feel is right, I am just saying from my personal stand point if I were offered this trade.

What I would really like to do is buy the left handed strat and keep the plus, just need to find a way to get some cash for that.

Another option is the red 87 squier and a 2000 american standard sunburst ash strat for the strat plus. At least then I would be getting a american strat. This is a 3 way deal, so one guy has the left handed strat, another guy has the red squier, the amp, or the other american strat.

Maybe I can get the one guy that wants the plus to buy the left handed squier and trade him the plus for the left handed strat and the american strat. What's your opinion on that? here's a pic of the American Standard.

There is NO WAY I'd trade a plus for two squires! My $.02

Also, I forgot to mention the most important thing.....the feel of your guitar. If the plus feels good in your hands and you play it as such then that is your keeper. I have a 1983 Gibson Explorer that the neck fits my hand like a glove, I plan on taking that guitar to the grave with me. Just for quality sake though, personally I would not trade a MIA fender anything for 2 Squiers and a Peavey solid state amp. Still, your gear, you have to be the one to decide.

I know the guy also has a Clapton model Strat he got cheap, might see if he wants to do an even trade for that, if he still has it.

So your tempted to trade a 87 american strat (bear in mind that a 87 will officialy be considered a vintage strat in 3 years) for a couple of squires and a peavey someone else doesnt want?

Why do you even need to ask? If someone offered me that as a trade on my 04 deluxe i'd respond as if they'd just punched my nose. Thats no friend offering that trade.

Why the hell do you want to look like hendrix?

If I could receive an American Strat by unloading all that "B" stuff on the current owner in trade, I'd DIVE on it. If someone offered me all that "B" stuff for an American Strat, I'd flat out refuse it before the asker even finished his sentence. YMMV.

Don't do the trade you'll end up with 2 mediocre guitars and and a so-so amp. You'll be looking for another good guitar in no time if you do the deal.BTW you can pick up a decent lefty MIM Strat on EBay for fairly cheap if you want the Jimi "experience".

Keep the strat plus. Thats a no brainer. I have an 87 plus and it's one of my favorite guitars.

With all the responses here, I've lost track of what's what but either way...just my opinion for what it's worth.

The Squier Strat with the System 1 trem is going to be worth more than the lefty Squier...no doubt there. In my other thread you said you had the one with the System 1 so I'd hang on to that one...those are only go to go up in value. Normally I don't tend to think about such things but in this case considering my own recent quest, I know those System 1 models are getting a bit rare and hard to find. Again this is just my own opinion here but if your whole purpose for that lefty is to do the "Hendrix thing", I'd hang on to the System 1 and just pick up another lefty somewhere down the road..."cool" just for it's own sake isn't always worth the cost of admission.

Now the Peavey 210 for the Strat Plus...if you're trading the amp to get the Strat then ya...go for it. If you're trading the Strat for the amp, BAD trade. Peavey's of that vintage are very decent amps but they are NOT worth a lot of money...I have 3 of the same generation (a Backstage Plus, TKO and a Companion). If you looked around, you could probably buy that amp outright for around $200 - $250 give or take. Depending on the condition of the '91 Strat Plus, it could easily fetch $400 to $800 if not more based on what I'm seeing on Ebay.

Ultimately in both cases the choice really is up to you. Realistically if I had 2 or 3 guitars and no amp, even if it wasn't an equitable trade, a decent amp would serve me better than having the extra guitar but you'll have to decide that for yourself.

BTW...that Squier E series that we were talking about in my other thread...I spent some time playing her today. -Very- choice guitar. She really does have a very sweet sound and that neck is just luscious! I don't think she's going to replace my '96 Standard but I think she's definitely my new #2. I'm quite glad I picked her up and I'm very happy :-).

Again, just my $.02 worth. I just wanted to provide a little more detail than "don't do it".

Peace,
Jim
