Hey everyone.. I just signed up to this forum today actually because I have been in kind of an interesting situation.

Several weeks ago I had the privilege of trying a Fender VG Strat and instantly i knew I wanted this guitar. Later that night I found out it had been discontinued. I spent the next few days tracking one down, which ended up being at a store called Long and Maquade in Mississauga, Ontario, Canada. When I called them they told me it was in mint condition and that it came with all the original packaging including the manual and the original hardshell case. When I got there I found that the guitar was missing a knob, was scratched up and covered in dust, but still they were selling as new. When I finally got someone to help me, after about an hour, I decided I was going to buy this guitar on the condition that they would order the missing knob, which I imagine is quite hard to get a hold of since it is a small custom knob that was only made for this now discontinued guitar. Furthermore, I learned that they did not have the manual, nor the original case, and stuck me with a vintage hardshell case, and some random manual for a much older model of guitar etc.

Now that this guitar is discontinued, these extra pieces seem really important to me and i feel a bit cheated. As an authorized fender dealer, long and maquade should be responsible for maintaining and keeping all of the orginal materials, or at best, that the guitar remains in tact. I have called the store a few times over the last few days, and keep getting very vague dodgy answers, and to my disarray, I overheard one of the customer service reps saying to the salesman who was helping me, that he doubts they will be able to replace the part, even though he wrote it on my receipt as a condition of purchase.

What do you guys think? Will I ever get my hands on the missing knob? What should I do??? lol

Chris.

1) The guitar chooses the player. Your git has chosen you.
2) You will get the knob, and you will rock.
3) Happiness ensues.

'Also bought a "999" VG 3 colour SB and really like the guitar. Mostly use it as an American Standard, which works delightfully. Battery pack rarely goes in, but the guitar is competent with it, too.

'Use an old bought-used Cyber-Twin and slightly less old Vetta HD and 412 Slant, both of which perform admirably with the VG.

Hi, first post on this board. I also have the sunburst VG, got it JUST BEFORE Guitar Ctr had their drop in price...rats. I did get it new off Ebbbay for a reasonable price, tho, so I don't feel quite as bad. :D

I had played nothing but Acoustics for years, but needed to get my rock on, so this is what I chose. I use a Fender Super Champ XD for my amp. Talk about options! I can model a bunch of different guitars and / or amps now!

As others state, the 12-string setting is cool. I am pretty happy with the straight Strat sounds too.

Hi guys. Dont have a VG strat but bought a Roland VGA-7 amp a few years ago and decided to get the syth pickup while i was there and feelin rich. I had a Squier strat in a sorry state of disrepair, Id been playing les paul style guitars (including a pre lawsuit Ibanez Custom, and a epiphone that looks nice but quickly deteriorated like the squire) but missed the 'quack' of a single coil guitar.
The pickup sat in the drawer for years till i got up the courage to chisel into the squire and attempt to install the system. fitting it all in with the electronics already in there was beyond my skills so i just ditched the lot... those pickups were useless anyway.
And to my surprise it sounded pretty good! covered the pickguard with contact (like kids use on thier schoolbooks) to cover the holes left by the pickups and its pretty cool. The VGA-7 models all sorts of guitars, banjos, keyboard, that sort of thing. makes a cool Dr Who noise. I even took a feed off the direct out to a Line6 GX and recorded a regae bass part on sonar using the strat. I just got a Highway one the other day so i probly wont use the squire as a 'strat' much anymore, but i still use it on songs with accoustic in them and might start using some of the more out there noises
