If you want low population density, Niki, there is no better choice than northern Canada. I could take you fishing, to places that probably haven't seen a person for years, and we could probably trek to a place that no one has ever been, if we wanted to.

On the Alaska is cold and bright, I have a funny (to me anyway,) story about living and working way up north.

I was working for an oil company way up in the North west territories. It was summer. we had people from a few companies working on this project, so in the camp there were a couple guys from Texas. They arrived at the very end of June. They found out Canada Day (our national independence day thing,) was July 1st. So they decided we should have a big party for Canada Day, and the 4th of July.

Since fireworks are super easy to get here, they bought an absolute truck load. They spent the better part of 2 days digging a fire pit, and setting up a sand pit to launch the fireworks from. all the while the rest of us were standing around with beers watching them.

Finally on the first when they were ready, they told us to come out that night for a giant light show.Apparently they had no idea about "The Midnight Sun" Of coarse they didn't realize that it wouldn't get fully dark for another couple weeks. So they sat out there for hours, even though the sun actually did set,( we weren't quite far enough north to still have visible sun at midnight,) the sky never really got dark.
