I recently picked up a project strat, and I can't exactly figure out what I have. The guitar had a Fender Custom Shop neckplate with serial, however I am am aware these can be purchased on ebay very cheaply. There are no stamps or barcodes in the body at all. There is what appears to be a 3 or a W written in the body with what appears to be a paint marker.

Here is a link to several pictures.

Edit: Link Updated

The guitar did come with what appears to be a vintage style custom shop neck that someone has butchered. I have sent the neck off to a friends shop to be repaired. Some of these pictures have the guitar with a charvel neck. That neck has been removed and will not be used with this project.

Anyone have any idea what this is?

that is most definitely not a fender custom shop body or neck.

you were right about the fake custom shop neckplate though.

Yeah, I am sure this isn't a custom shop body. I am just not sure if it may be a Mexican or USA body. There are no stamps that note that it is a warmoth, or mighty mite or other licensed replica body.

Any info would be appreciated.

To me it does not look like a fender body at all, so as for where it might have originated (u.s., mexico, etc.) would be pretty much impossible to tell. I would say it is not a fender liscensed replacement body if you can find no marks of this, companies usually rush to advertise this if they can get permission to put the words "fender liscensed" on something. Also, the neck does not look like a fender neck at all either.
