Post subject: Newbie here, need some help

A friend of mine told me if I tightened my Tremolo screw in a little it would be a little easier to play. I tightened up then up and lowered the Tremolo bridge. Now when the guitar is in tune, the "G" string hums real bad. Any suggestions?
