I know this is possibly a pointless thread but i really want to name my guitars. I JUST DON'T KNOW WHAT TO NAME THEM! I mean, i have come up with some names but they are all 100% cliche. Is there any way you guys name them for example colour or sound or shape?!!

thanks 8)

It all depends. People name their pets for certain reasons, think about guitars the same way. They're usually named after someone, either real or from a movie or cartoon. Or, it's some play on the name.

Red guitar might be something to do with red, like Lucy or something.

My strat is very sexy to me, so I named it Jenna (after a certain "star" with the last name of Haze). My Taylor is very smooth and sophisticated, so it got named Beasley. Kind of silly, but it is - what it is.

No need to name it - after it's gotten comfortable enough with you it will tell you its name.

You have to listen very carefully and they will tell you their names. You have to play them and then the name will come to you. Some of mine I know their names and some haven't told me their names yet. It's a bonding process and you have to earn their trust.

Throw a load of names into a hat and pull one out. My guitars are called red, brown, lemon, blonde, that one and cheese and pickle sandwich.

Its a secret though so dont tell anyone at all, your the only person who knows their secret names, ok.

I've always wanted a white Strat like the ones Hendrix often played. When I got my vintage white American Deluxe I named her Mary after the Hendrix song "The Wind Cries Mary".

I've also been envious of SRV's trashed up #1 so I bought a Sunburst Highway One with a Rosewood neck. I named her Stevie because it's a unisex name.

I call my US-made fiesta red 1962 reissue Stratocaster "Fiesta Red" due to her gorgeous finish....

Image

I call my hecho-en-Mexico Telecaster "Big Tex" due to the big Texas tone she puts out...

Image

I call my 1980 G&L F-100 (my first guitar) "Brownie" because of her tobacco sunburst finish...

Image

...all of them are beautiful, all of them have their own personality, and yes, all of them are girls.

There have been a lot of naming post lately. The funny thing is I have owned over 20 guitars and I never named one.

Maybe that's why you've owned over 20 guitars. :D

Flyingarmadillo had a good point, wait for the instrment to tell you its name.

Alternately, name it like you would a cherished pet.

Or, sometimes they or you just may not want a name.

'Been all three places, personally.

One day a name will come to you. That's the right one, until then just call it the Strat, or the Tele, or whatever.
